I love to troll, I spend alot of time trolling deep water 30'to 40' deep sometimes. I have had succes for walleyes in these depths with light line and some cranks but have heard of alot of success with lead core.I am wondering if there is litterature out there?Info on : line weight, speed, lure types and how they are affected by fishing lead core line, depth control, any helpfull info. I was told Grampa Joe and Eric olsen would be a couple of people to ask.

Thanks,please let me know

Check out: "Trolling Top To Bottom", and "Precision Trolling". I believe both of these books cover leadcore. You're working an ideal leadcore depth. You can also search this board for past posts. A lot has been shared concerning leadcore.

Hey Harlan,

I have heard a lot of guys boast about there sucess with leadcore, and I am going to try leadcore this year for the first time. I have read a lot of the articles in many of the mag's just as you have, but the video "advanced trolling tactics" by In Fisherman was very informative. I ordered it off there WEB site. Good Luck.

For rods, anything from 6-8ft would do as long as they have a soft tip. reel, penn 209 can hold 10 colors easily. Line, 18lb leadcore and a 20-30ft leader of fireline/braid/mono/flouro line in 8-12lb test.
Now the hard part. Speed has a huge affect on leadcore. Slower you go, line goes deeper. Faster-shallower. At .5mph with 4 colors and a stickbait, i can hit roughly 30-38 feet. At 1mph, i can hit 23-30ft and at 1.5mph, i can hit 15-25. Faster than 2mph and you might as well use downriggers. Notice i said roughly for depths.....water temp/wind/thermocline/size of lure will all affect the depth.
Best thing to do is go out and experiment for yourself. Leadcore does catch fish but with the weight of the line, it takes the fun out of the fight.
