I'm heading down to lake of the Ozarks the first week of June and was wondering if anybody knew about the Walleye population down there.

I have been fishing LOZ for 10 years and I've caught 1 walleye. Save the tim and instead concentrate on crappie and largemouth under the docks. They also have a huge catfish population if you're into that.

Thanks for the info.
Is there any lakes in that general area that have a good Walleye population?

Table Rock is a few hours South and, I believe, the Walleye fishing is better but still not outstanding. I have not fished Table Rock - I've only read reports. Good luck.

Your best bet for decent 'eye fishing in MO is (or possibly I should say WAS) Lake Stockton, just south of LOTA. Unfortunately, that is one of the towns that got totalled by the tornadoes - there may not even be any lodging left - you should verify before you go there. Table Rock is not as good for walleyes, but 1). it is pretty, 2). has good bass fishing and 3). if you are a country music buff, it is close to Branson.

You might want to try a day trip from LOZ to Stockton Lake. Fishing should be hot about then, with the fish already set up in their early summer patterns. Lake levels are right at normal and bouncers/spinners/crawlers in 10-18 feet on midlake flats amd sloping points should get you some nice 16-19 inchers.

Lots of good launches around the lake. Have a good trip!

LOTA may not be hot for walleye but the tailrace waters out of Truman DAM produce some nice fish. Fished that hole a lot before I moved to PA 2 years ago. Water being released-jig off the bottom at the curreent breaks with Hot Pink 1/8 jig head and 3" or so chrts. shimmy shad. No water release- move around to the dead channel and slow rig 4-5' leaders tipped with leeches and hang on!! This time of year the spawn should be trickling down but the structure and current breaks hold them for a time after. Good luck, wish I could go back with you!!

Thanks for all the info. I have hired a guide for one day at LOA so my son and I should have some fun. I would really like to get into some Eye's while I'm out there though.

Go to Bull Shoals Lake, it's beside Table Rock. There is some outstanding Walleye fishing. http://ozarkanglers.com/reports/bs.phtml
