I'm looking at an aluminum boat where the guy put his for sale sign on the hull with duct tape. Is there a way to remove it w/o damaging the finish? What about decals? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe the substance is called "GooGone" it wont remove paint (usually, test in a safe spot)... You should be able to get it at your local department store.

Another one is Goof-off. both will cut the adhesive without etching the paint.

Spray it with WD 40 and let it sit for awhile, then some soap and water will take it right off.

Use a hair blow dryer on the decals. Not too hot. then they will peel off.

Naptha is a good adhesive remover and is easy on paint
A heat gun will help remove most decals.

Steve,
The hairdryer thing is the best for removing decals.
"Go Jo" (Yes, the hand cleaner - Original Formula, not the pumice stuff or the orange one) is my choice for removing all kinds of adhesive, grease, scum, grime, etc. Spread it on and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Test a small portion and if it is not coming off readily, let the Go Jo stand a little longer and it will.
I have found TONS of uses for Go Jo around the garage and house AND it is 100% water soluable. Great stuff!!
