Am looking at purchacing a hand held GPS. Will be using mostly in boat for fishing purposes, secondary purposes would be for hunting and hiking. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I haven't tried it yet, but the Garmin Etrek really interests me. I have an older Eagle, which works fine, but is getting old. The Etrek is TINY and seems to have all the features I want. Good luck on your search.

I bought a Lowrance Globalmap 100 last year to take to Canada with me, really like it. Got the cd-rom, pc inter-face and a ram mount. pc cable also has a cigarette lighter adapter on it, saves on batteries,a must. As with any GPS, you need to read the book, but it's a life saver on strange lakes. With the cd you can down-load detailed mapping of the area you're going too. I live in Indiana, and I can down-load about a third of the state at one time. So you can easily cover the lake you're going to. It's great to mark reefs, hot fishing spots and most of all, your cabin. Nice thing is, all the waypoints I marked will still be stored in there when I go back next year. I highly reccomend getting one with mapping so you can actually see where you're going.
