How do these work? What I mean is, is the angler thighs sticking out of the water in a sitting position? Or is the anglers body from waist down submered in the water and held up by a harness? Kind of like in a standing position? Thanks! I'm going to buy one of these over the net and have to get an idea of how I will be sitting in one.

Go to www.thebasspond.com and go to fly rod tackle and tactics. There is already a discussion on tubes and do'nt be afraid to ask for advice.

Most of your lower body is submerged in most float tubes. Note that there are several varieties, u-tubes and round boats, etc. I would recommend the round variety for most bass fishing, because I find it much more comfortable to be able to rest my rod and wrist against the tube rather than having to hold it suspended all day. You won't believe how many bass you can catch from a tube-- much more effective than a boat because they don't get spooked as much (I've had big largemouths bump into my legs). Have fun.

You need GOOD waders. If water is cool to cold, they should be neoprenes. Here in Colorado, I wear fleece under my neoprenes. Also, don't scrimp on fins. I've tried a bunch and good fins make a huge difference in maneuverability, especially if there is any wind. Though pricey, I like the Force Fins best. Invest in some fin tethers just in case one ever comes off. Finally, take a look at the wide variety of kick boats. Some are similar to float tubes (soft, inflatables) but you sit up higher with less of you in the water. Advantage to comfort and casting ease; disadvantage in the wind. Good luck and have fun.

If you get a U-shaped tube I would recommend getting one that has a rigid bar across the open end of the U. If it doesn't have a bar as you sit in the seat your weight can close the U slightly and give you less leg room.
