Hi all, I just moved to MI and am looking forward to fishing the big waters (Erie, Huron, St. Clair). I need some help in choosing a drift sock for my 16 ft. Lund Angler. I looked in the latest Cabela's catalog and since I've never owned/used a drift sock before, could anyone guide me in making an educated choice? Thanks a lot! Jim S.

There's only one you need to look at, the Wave Tamer. www.driftbag.com

I would invest in a bigger boat before you worry about what kind of drit-sock you decide to use. Big waters can get rough in a hurry, being in danger takes the fun out of fishing in a hurry. As far as drift socks are concerned, I use a tournament series from cabela's. It has two ropes, one to control how much water flows through it, and another to attach it to your boat. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the new water to fish.

Check out the WaveTamer. Ingenious design to keep the bag from collapsing or sinking. It won't twist either. It is the easiest to deploy and retrieve and stores nicely.
You can get them at Gander Mountain or Thorne Brothers or check their website: http://www.driftbag.com

Look at drift control. They make four sizes and the pro model is adjustable for speed and they work great. They are available at Cabela's and Galyan's.

Check out Sam Anderson's site and look at the information for that topic. It's www.samanderson.com It will give you some background information that should prove helpful.

Thanks Hogger and Aquaman, i feel better now!-after the expo i took inventory of what i had bought-kept it under $200-the Wave Tamer & float rope was about half the budget. Already have a driftbag, but it spins, has too many ropes, dives and is just clumsey. i thought to myself, jeeze, that was unnessary and impluseive, could have made do! but,the Tamer was just too good to pass on. cant wait for open water to try it out
good luck

Wave Tamer is the only way to go...they make two sizes and the smaller one would work just fine in your boat. I have used most of the competitors....Wave Tamer is the ONE!!! Easy to use, stores in it's own bag, does not soak up water, deploys the easiest I have ever used...I can go on and on. You won't regret buying this one.

Bigger is better & don't be afraid to get two. Your small lite boat will drift fast, especially with the high gunnels. If you don't have the money, use 2- five gallon buckets on 8-10 ft of rope. They also work nice in cold situations-- a lot less water on your hands. Also use a poly rope--doesn't absorb so much water.
