I'm in the market for a new marine radio. I would appreciate some opinions from the vast experience and knowledge I know is out there on this site. I'm willing to spend some money to get quality. The biggest problem I've had with my old one is reliable operation in wet weather. I know the antenna is an important part of the total package, and I have a good quality antenna already, so I just need the radio. Thanks.

For years I have had good luck with the Humminbird Radios. THey are 100% water proof. My dad has had one in his charter boat on Erie for 6 yrs now and it is still going strong. Nothing fancy, just waterproof.
Good Luck and Keep the Line Tight.

I favor the Raytheon "Ray 45" model. Waterproof and has plenty of features, with reasonable cost. I have mine on an open boat, not protected. It sees all the weather and works great.

I have the Humminbird DC-25 that is a great little water-tight radio...but I don't think they are made anymore. All I see now are Raytheon, Shakespeare and Uniden as far as the 25 watters go.

Depending on what features you want, Raytheon has 2 models that are compact and 100% waterproof. They're deffinately worth looking into.

Raytheon mmarine band radios are superior in many respects; about 75 percent of the PWT pros run them, and communication is always clear. Make sure to separate your GPS receiverfrom your marine band antenna. Good choice of a mounting system for the antenna is the RAM mount. Ray 52 is a good model; you'll like the ability to switch channels in the mic. JK

Raytheon is what the PWT staff and the majority of the pros use. I would recommend two models the 45 or the 52. The 52 is a little more money but the features are worth it, especially if you will be keeping the radio for long term. Compact, waterproof, reliable, they also make a great 3foot stainless antenna. Check them out at www.raymarine.com.
