Lake Erie Report for Sunday Evening (Father's Day) and Monday (6/16),
Sunday evening fished reefs close to Mazurik Launch. Did not go out until 8:00pm and fished until 10:00 pm. From Mazurik went 2.75 miles to green can (Short reef). Fished with my partner (my 9-year old son) so did not want to venture too far. Caught seven walleyes all in the 2 - 3 pound range plus four catfish, one sheephead, and one goby. son was excited just about catching anything. Used Toms in 1/2 oz size. Best color was Chartruese green/yellow with gold blade.
Monday, different story. Winds from Sunday night contiuned and increased on Onday and it made for a rough day. Prbably should have gone back to Fort Wayne but went out anyhow. Tried west side of Kelley drifting about halfway between Kelley and South Bass. Caught two decent fish then nothing for an hour. (Did not get started until almost 9:00). Went to NE side of Kelley (and bucked the waves all the way.) Fished the points inside and outside, picked up nine fish in three hours of "work". Used 3/4 oz Toms & Teasers plus drug harness to get fish. All decent size, with largest two pushing 8 lbs. My boy was getting too "beat Up" and decided to call it a day but it turned out to be ok.
I am still trying to figure out how the forecast our NWS gave for Lake Erie said it was going to be 1 - 2's on Monday but then Sunday night that changed?
Still, be safe and if you do go out have the common sense to know when enough is enough.
