Lot's of laughs......

Sorry, but Swan Lake is known for it's duck hunting....it is a large watershed that has some excellent hunting available to the public. I have hunted it years ago!!

It is not known as a walleye lake or a fishing lake at all for that matter......

But ya know......

what if.......

what if....

what if no one has ever tried? It is a large body of water....there are fish in the lake, though I always expected them to be carp/bullhead/etc.

What if it had a population of walleye!!! Unfished walleye..can you say she-pigs!!!

Best to use a duck boat and a small motor.....a $40,000 rig may become another duck blind if you aren't careful(lol).

There are some good lakes North and East of Mankato. Go to a bait shop to get info.

I grew up about 5 miles from Swan Lake, and their is nothing in their except bull heads and the occasional sunfish. It was funny hearing how families would drive for 8 hours with their boat and come to Nicollet and ask where the nearest resort on Swan Lake was and then find out it was a huge duck hunting marsh.

Yes, I grew up not too far from there and I can't say that I have ever known an adult who has fished it. It is funny because it looks like such a wonderful lake on road maps.

For the fun of it, I just looked at the DNR lake finder info for Swan Lake. Although the majority of the lake falls in the 4-6 foot deep range, there is an 8.5 foot hole somewhere because that is what the DNR lists as its deepest point. As far as the fishery is concerned, here it is (straight from the DNR website):

Status of the Fishery (as of 09/06/2001)
The first formal fishery assessment of Swan Lake was conducted in September 2001. Gill net catch was entirely black bullhead except for one green sunfish. The gill net catch of black bullhead was comprised of fish around 5 inches in length with another group around 9.5 to 11 inches. An extremely high number of black bullhead were captured in both standard 3/4 inch and 3/8 inch trap net. Nearly all of these fish were less than 5 inches. Green sunfish and fathead minnows were also caught in the trap nets.
