I have some questions about fishing with spoons for eyes in the western basin of lake Erie. Are spoons productive throughout the whole season? Trolling speed? Lure brand and color? (I have read that the stinger scorpion is a good producer)Lure size? Dipsie size? Thanks for your help. This board is great.
When you Michigan Stinger Scorpion, you've selected a size (about 2-1/4" long). Some better colors are Schrimp, Confusion, Kavorkian, Boy-Girl, Monkey Puke, Watermelon, Superman, Oilslick or Bildge water, Mass Confusion, Plumb Crazy & Blueberry Muffin.
Speed is a day to dat thing but 2.3 - 2.7 usually catches it.
For size of Dipsy in the western basin there is no reason to go larger than the size 0 dipsy. good luck.

What ETT said below is good info and to add I usually start running these spoons around Mid June till Nov. Before June and in Nov. you would do good by using Reef Runner Baits. I run both baits in Nov & Dec. if were still fishin. I try to run the ReefRunners slow .5 to 2mph. the spoons I run 1.8 to 2.8mph.

I also agree with ETT in his tactics and color choices only thing I can add is the the Scorpion spoons tend to chip and I have had a hard time holding paint on them. I really like the RAC spoons. They have all the same colors and I have had no problems at all with the spoons. Make sure you use spoons to troll with this year and you owe it to yourself to try out these spoons. E-mail address racspoon@mnsi.net. Just my opinion and hope it helps you some.
