I got two Ugly Sticks on a Fishing show this weekend but I have not decided on counter reel. I see two that I liked one was Shakespeare ($60) and other was Dawia GL & SG ($125 - $150)(line counters). Since I got two rods for my downrigger I need two reels with would you recommend?

Thank You

why line counters for downriggers? I use Daiwa 47s on my Ugly Stik downrigger rods -- no complaints whatsoever (the 47s handle big trout and salmon). If you're rigging for walleyes, you wouldn't need the bigger reel.

Cisco beat me to the question..why line-counters? However, it sounds like you're just starting your gear collection, so line-counters are probably the way to go. That way, if you switch from downriggers to gadgets..like divers..you're all set. $150 sound high for a Diawa SG27LC, but they're the best. I'd stay away from the GL series. In my opinion, the SG is well worth the extra money. Good Fishing, Sluggo

Diawa SG 27 LC`S are worth every penny you pay for them, but you only need to pay around 90.OO for them.

Those prices you quotes are out of sight. the shakespeare is available at walmart and other places for around 40 bucks. The Daiwa SG27lc's are around 90 bucks. Like other posts, not sure of the real need for a linecounter for downrigging, but they are only way to go for other types of trolling.
