Anyone heard any predictions on the water level this spring for Lake Erie? I have searched the net with no success.

With the ice/snow covering part of the Lake during the winter it should have curtailed the evaporation effect we have had the past three years.
It at least, should not go dopwn this year.
Good luck

As of Feb 1, gov't predictions are for another 6 to 10 inch drop throughout the Great Lakes for mean elevation this year -- of course there is still snow to fall in the watershed, then the runoff, and perhaps the higher than average precip predicted for upper Great Lakes for March-May.
I know you Erie guys are hurting, but there are several Door County WI launch ramps on the Green Bay side that cannot be used. And, the L Mich side has seen dregding to make ports usable. I like sunshine, but let's hope there's plenty of spring rain.

While lack of evaporation will certainly help us out on L. Erie the major factor by far is how much rain/snowfall in the upper great lakes sees over the year. Don't forget that 90% of the water in Lake Erie comes from a single inlet.....the Detroit River. Obviously that flow is determined by how much precipitaion the other great lakes watersheds to the north and west accumulate. Remember last year's spring/early summer rains? We set records in some areas of the Lake Erie western basin watershed while the rest of it was normal to above normal and the lake level still went down. Also keep in mind that last year's lake level was at historical mean (normal). We are coming off a 30+ yr. period of historically high water levels. Ever see pictures of Turtle Island when there was still a light house on it?

Great info here. Pick up your telephone and call for the most up-to-date info. These people have been awesome to me. The contaminants in the fish were of concern to me, thats how I found this group. Click around in there. Great info on the zebra mussel, goby (little!@#%&*'s) densities........ Not to mention the lake level changes, how and why's.
In fact I think I'll start a new topic!
