I was wondering what the opinions of vanish fishing line, or any of the other flourocarbons lines are. I was thinking of 4 lb test for crappie fishing. I usually use a 1/100th to 1/64th oz. jig. Is flourocarbon too stiff for that? Is it harder to see in the water than regular monofilament? How does the diameter compare to reg. mono of equal lb. test line? Thanks for any info you can give.

Vanish gets a bad rap here on WC. Some use it for leader, some tried spooling it on their reels and casting with it and wound up throwing it away, and some have another flourocarbon preference. I have several spools that I use for leader material and haven't had any problems.
In short, don't plan on spooling up with it. And if you're looking for leader, most prefer another flourcarbon brand called Seagaur (I think that's how it's spelled). I think it helps when used as a leader. Good luck.

I experienced crappie fishing everytime I spooled up with vanish.
Just kidding, I couldn't resist. I used it once for smallmouth up in Green Bay. It could be good for some applications because it has a tendency to sink (as opposed to mono) so you might be able to get down a liitle bit quicker when using those light jigs. Also, it's abrasion resistance was slightly better than mono, but I found that it tended to get twisted up a lot easier and my overall impression was that it was not as good as mono for the applications I was using it for. (I prefer something more supple, like Trilene XL or XT) I have tried using it as a leader material, but have no significant results to interpret as to wheter or not I caught more fish with the flourocarbon leader or straight up mono.
Sorry this isn't a clear cut "go with it" or "use it to hang pictures" answer.
Good luck, let us know what you do.

I don't mind it for leaders. I HATE it on a spinning reel!

Any big fish just "Vanish" when the line breaks.
Go with Maxima mono in 2 or 4 lb. test.
