No "ups"...just "downs". Very few fish being caught of ANY sizes.

we were up approximately one week ago. the bite was rumored to be slow. we caught 10 walleyes in (6) six hours of fishing. (2) two in the low 20 inch range and (8)eight between 24 1/2" and 27 1/4". all of our fish came on cranks. i thought the bite was pretty good for this time of year. when fishing mille lacs this year, you need to understand that the fish require some fishing skills as compared to last year. i am very happy that the 50 - 70 day walleye days are few and far between this year. it was a real tradegy last year when guys would fish all day to see how many fish they could rip out of 30 feet of water with no problem at all and then brag to their pals that they hammered more big walleyes. it didn't seem like too much of and accomplishment to me watching the majority of anglers pulling too many fish from deep water and then unsuccesfully releasing them.
mille lacs is a paradise. it is well managed by the state of MN. DNR and they are managing the resource for the future anglers. many people have opened their eyes as to the selfish agenda of the small group of old mille lacs fishermen that are so quickly falling by the wayside as a result of the modern worlds all encompassing agenda.
the sky isn't falling at mille lacs - the sun is rising and the fish are there. too bad some of the old fellas can't figure out the new bite! work at it and find the fish. you will enjoy your trip.

I'll bite my tongue ...hard.....on this one.
Contrary to your "old fella's" remark, there ARE a few that REALLY do know the REAL world at Mille Lacs. Even today....
Someday if you want to debate the issues here, using your DNR "current" stats( including actual fish population/netting survey numbers and sizes) and day in and day out fishing reports/stats, from ALL levels of skill, let me know. You might learn something! But I won't do it here...my tongue hurts.

I Have a couple of recommendations for fishing Mille Lacs. Or as the "Old Fellas" say " MILLAC" . I dont fish Mille Lacs on the weekend, only a ocassional Sunday night. That goes for Ice and Open water. I know most cant get on Mille Lacs till the weekend, change YOUR pattern if you can.
