Was there on the weekend of July 25- 27 water dropping 14" vert./day.
I did not catch a fish in about 22 hrs of fishing. Saw 2 fish caught one was 7" and one was 12". Didn't talk to any one else who caught a fish. All in all a very humbling experience. Typically Glendo fish are suspending and catchable when the water is dropping. Good Luck

I was up there this past weekend and fished Sat and Sun morning from 7-12. I trolled all over the lake and through everything I had in crank baits at them with multiple depths and techniques and caught 1 smaller eye near Goose Island. I seen allot of people trolling on Sat but it looked like they switched on Sunday and went back to fishing the shoreline. I only seen 2 other fish netted the entire weekend.

Got back today -- Aug 14. We spent six hours working from Airport to Reno and got one 24 inch 'eye on a gold/black crankbait in 14 feet of water out from the launch formerly known as Bennett. Why is it formerly known? ... it is high and dry with no launch capability. Reno high launch is also well out of launch range. The low ramp is a foot from coming off the concrete. Back to the fish ... it was healthy, full of fat and not a thing in her belly.

Caught one carp on said crankbait. Had a few perch-short strikes on bottom bouncers and two takedowns from unknowns on cranks in 20 and 18 feet. Most of the action was on flats, not on the shelfs. Wind was from the south by south east.

Broke my starter cord on a good-for-nothing engine that won't run worth a darn, and stuck a treble in my index finger releasing the carp. We quit fishing and went to the hospital -- heckofa trip it was. Enough about my issues.

Water flow was about 4,500 CFS and it is continuing to dry up. We did mark more perch on sonar than we have in the past. If I had to do it again, I would have trolled the 12 to 20 foot contours from Waters Point to Airport and never fished the shelves. Just me.

Thanks for the info. All and all it doesn't sound very good, I wonder how low it will go? Jeff how did the trip to the hospital turn out?

It was a nice affair. A few pricks with one-percent Xylocaine and it was numb as the fishing. He worked it through and hopefully the antibiotics will keep any after-affects from emerging. Rule to all fishermen -- keep your tetnus current, you never know what will happen. Spent Saturday crimping barbs, that won't happen again for me.

From the four trips we've had, it seem that finess fishing is out of the question. I would recomment that folks pull plugs or bottom bouncers at a good clip and seek the aggressive biters. Don't know if that will work for all, but I'm going to be going 3 to 4 mph and cover water on multiple passes -- enough of the slow stuff.

Shoot me an e-mail at akfisherman@bresnan.net if you want to keep in touch and bounce fishing reports off of each other.

Tight lines,

Jeff

The water level as of 14 Aug 03 is over 20 feet higher than it was same date last year. Whiskey ramp has lots of of water on it as does Marina and low water ramp in Reno.According to the water experts we are suppose to have 80,000 acre ft of water before they start filling it again. This is 3 ft higher than it was last year at its lowest point. Bottom line reno cove low water ramp will be useable. Fishiing is slow, some days better than others. Catching them on cranks on shore lines and slabbing on rocky points. Talk with the biologist who were doing a creel survey of Glendo this past Friday and they say the lake is doing real good. Lots of little fish and fish that are in the 22-23 in range. All fish are healthy with an abundance of bait fish. Between all the bait and a big alage bloom fishing is a little slow. They also said they got a lot of little perch in their nets, which is good news. One of guys said that this years hatch of walleyes were 4-5 in long. So guys come fishing its not all about catching. This year will make you a better angler.

Just a few comments on the water level. We all need to calm down on levels here during the draw down. It happens every year, the lake will drop 40 to 65 fet each year. During July there is a silt run which is when Guernsey is drained, shortly after that they refill Guernsey from Glendo that is the 14" a day drop that was seen then. Some years it is less drastic and some years it is more, bottom line it's an annual thing no big deal. Levels that were seen last year should be the low point, what had people shocked was that it happened in August rather then September, that was the only change. This year we should see the low point around the end of the month and 2 ft higher then last year, still 3 weeks earlier then the norm of late Sepptember Once again bottom line at the low point last year the low water ramp at Reno was still well in the water. Right now we have 25 ft more water then last year at this time, use Reno, Whisky or the Marina ramps. As of this week end things may be showing some change in the bite. Reports of catches of many 12 to 14 inch Eyes with a few 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 lb. The lake will be stable during September with a slow fill beginning in October, we are lookng forward to a decent fall bite when things get stable. A lot of things attibuted to the slow bite this year but the drop in the lake is not the soul factor. Fish have different feeding and location paterns during this time of year, in order to figure out what they do this time of year you need to bring your graph and see where they are and what they are doing, take some notes. Some of the patient fishermen catch some fish during the time when no one is catching fish. This is because they spent some time tracking and working the fish during this time of the year. Keep coming you may not go home with a lot of fish but worked smartly you will go home with some good information for next year. Thanks for your time.

Glendoeye is right on. We fished for about 3-4 hours on Saturday morning. Pulled reef runners from Bennet point to Whiskey gulch. Freind of mine was pulling shad raps. We didn't boat anything but some carp. You can still use the marina ramp, Whiskey Gulch and Reno to launch from.

Neal;
I will be there and will try and talk Bob from Curlys in to coming also. Is there anything I can bring or do to make this a sucess? Does anyone need a ride and do we have a backup up plan if the walleyes won't cooperate? Will be fishing a couple times this week and will pass on any patterns I find sucessful. Fish or no fish we will have lots of fun. Ron

Unfortunately Dennis can't make it this year.

Do you guys think the big year class of small Perch that are present this year could be have the fish in shallower than normal this year? If they were targeting perch instead of shad that might explain why trolling sucks so far?

I was marking some schools of baitfish deep and some fish at 30'-40' on bottom with my X-85. That may be the depth to target. My have to throw everything in the box at them to figure out what they like.

Funny thing you mention that. In the CWA tourney this year, I caught a 19 inch fish, jigging in shallow water, that spit up (in the livewell) a skeleton of a 6 inch shad or perch. There was not enough flesh on the skeleton to tell species but that was quite the meal for a 19 inch eye.

Even if we have to jig 'em up, we'll find them.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wyoming State Parks and Historic Sites personnel are advising boaters and recreationists that Guernsey and Glendo State Parks will have unusable boat ramps over Labor Day weekend.

During the week of August 25, 2003, the release of water from Guernsey Reservoir will decline approximately 12 feet causing the boat ramps to become unusable by August 28, 2003. This decision, made by the Bureau of Reclamation, is due to the drought conditions and the decreased irrigation water supply.
