Fished about 3 miles off Stony Point on Friday afternoon. Two man limit trolling crawler harnesses with bottom bouncers. Gold was the best blade color. Trolling speed was about 1.7 mph. Fished within 1/2 mile of GPS coordinates 41.53.43N, 83.12.71W. Didn't have a problem with the floating weeds there but the floating weeds were bad within about a mile of Bolles Harbor when we came back in. Strange coming back in and southeast Michigan was in a power outage. We only lost power briefly in most of the Toledo area.

Frank, unless I'm figuring wrong, its more like 6 miles off of Stoney Pte to those coordinates. No problem, I just wanted to let you know. Thats the area I've been doing pretty well in lately. What I didn't realize is that, thats in Buckeye water! I've got both licenses, but the guest I had with me last week only had Michigan. Gusee we were pretty lucky!

It must be farther off Stony Point than I thought. Both of us that were fishing have Ohio and Michigan licenses so I wasn't worried about which state we were in. I've been fishing this area because of information you posted here on Walleye Central. So thank you very much, you helped me catch some nice walleyes.

Thanks Frank T,
I couldn't make it to Erieau today, so I took your GPS numbers and fished this morning for walleyes instead. I fished out in the same area a few weeks ago and I was surprised the walleyes were still out there. Four of us limited out this morning with 3oz bottom bouncers and silver and blue, copper, and gold blades being the best blade colors on our crawler harnesses. I've seen your posts before and I knew this would be a good area to try. Its been a great walleye season and its reliable info from all on this board that makes it a little easier to go out and catch fish. Thanks again, and good luck.

FrankT, when are you heading back out again? I'm gonna try in the a:m. I'll put a report out as soon as I get back in. Gonna try the same coordinates. With this easterly wind we've been having, it may be weedy. I'll let you know.

Not sure if I can make it out before Saturday. Tomorrow is iffy because of work and the weather sounds iffy Wednesday through Friday.

John
I'll give you a shout. Do you use channel 68? Should I hail you as John from walleyecentral or do you have a name for your boat?

I usually use 68, don't have a name for my boat and just go by "Frank" on the radio. Not sure what time I'll get out but it will probably be around 8 am.

Frank, just yell for JohnP. If I'm not out Saturday, I'll be out Sunday for sure! I wanted to get ut yesterday or today, but work wouldn't allow it. I'll yell at you if I'm out there.

P.S. What type of boat do you have?

South of that. Just south of Fermi. There is a big house that sits right on the point(if you get close enough to see it).

Frank / John,

I took the day off Tuesday and fished in the area described above. The lat/lon above was actually a short distance from several waypoints I've logged from the beginning of the summer. Fished from 8am to 1pm (having to head back to work to solve a crisis) - pulled in 4 eyes and a several nice perch. One of the eyes was 9lbs (little under 29") - the others were in the 20" range. Numerous boats out perching, only a few trolling for eyes. Looks like the winds and waves are coming in for the weekend. Hopefully I'll get out Sunday.

Knappy, thats an excellant fish for this time of the year! I was gonna go yesterday, but my work was beckoning to me, so I had to pass. I'll be there this weekend for sure.

If I'm out Sunday, it won't be until about 1 in the afternoon.

I have an 18 ft Lund outboard with a blue canvas top.

It seems like there's been walleyes in this general area most of the summer. Is that what you've experienced?

Yes, I've experienced the same thing. This year, it must be because of the cooler water temps. The temps hae been around 75* max this year. I hope it stays for the rest of the year, and then gets better!

Frank,

I also have a 18 Lund , with blue top (1800 Fisherman - with a Honda on the back). Typically launch out of Sterling. I'm going to try to make it out Sunday - monitor 68 for Knappy or the boatname - Jollymon.

Fished today (Saturday) from 10am to 2pm for walleyes off Stony Point. We got one at 41.53.55/83.13.33 and two on at once at 41.54.04/83.13.08. That was it. We then switched to perch and it was even worse. Three perch in an hour.

I'll still be back out tomorrow at 1pm.

Frank, what were you running, bouncers? Did you try any cranks? Was there any weeds? I'll probably be in before you go out tomorrow, I'm gonna get out at about 6:30 am. If I get in early enough, I'll post results, if any!

Went out this morning, (Sunday) got on the water at 7:00am, went to the usual coordinates, popped one right off the git-go, on a gold blade harness. That was it, the weeds were very bad. Caught some trash fish, also caught three very respectable perch! I left at 9:00am, as the weeds were very frustrating. Didn't see anyone else doing much of anything, of course there weren't very many boats out either. Beautiful day, too bad the wind is out of the N-East. Not very strong, just enough to blow the floating weeds in.

Hey Guys -

Thanks for the coordinates - stayed a little closer to shore (23 to 24 ft). Started at 9:00, clouded up a might and wind changed direction, a small shower popped through. Took limit on gold blades three over 22 inches. Seems when you got into perch the walleye were not far behind. A large flock of cormorants showed up at around noon so I eased in next to them and took four more nice perch and my last eye. Everything died when clouds went through. Thanks again.

I didn't try any cranks. I fish bottom bouncers 90% of the time and with the floating weeds, I didn't think it would be worth trying crank baits.

The floating weeds were not real heavy, but we had to clean lines about every half hour or so.

I guess you just have to time it right. We got out to the area about 2:00 and got two walleyes. Heard people say they were getting perch over by the Raisin River channel, so we headed over that way. Got two more walleyes drifting crawler harnesses (I was just trying to see if we could locate a school of perch). We ran out of night crawlers so we anchored and picked up 30 perch. There were a lot of bait stealing white perch wherever we fished.

It does seem that the walleyes are near the areas with perch. Maybe the answer is to troll near the packs of boats that are catching perch.
