i was at Lake Erie with my daughter and 2 grandsons and they wanted to fish so I thought maybe Niagra might turn out some perch, bass sheephead, etc. to keep them interested. Water was flat it was hot and the bugs were there by the million.
After trying the deeper water around the reef hoping against hope for a walleye or two I noticed a couple in their boat netting a walleye from the shallow water and in a few minutes netting another walleye.
We moved up to 11 feet of water and starting catching walleye with regularity and soon was throwing fish back and our limit was reached.
Anywhere between 8 and 17 feet of water produced walleyes on weight forward spinners with crawlers.
Fished until noon and left due to heat, bugs and a whiny 6 year old. The walleyes were still hitting and I felt the pain as this was the best I had done in the last several years. According to the "book" this was not supposed to happen in the middle of August in bright sunshine, flat water and almost a 90 degree day but I am sure glad I was there.
Size was from 14 to 24 inches with the most being in the 18 to 22 inch size.
