In short. If you use your motor very much, 24 volt will almost double the life of the batteries. A LOT of discussion has gone one about the trolling motors lately, you might want to consider searching the last month or 2 of posts.

The thing you have to ask your self, Does the motor you have now have enough power. The price is not going to be that much more, around $60.00. If you have the room for the extra battery I would go with the 60lb, When the wind picks up you will be glad you did. If you need battries make sure you look at Trojans, they will give you more run time than the rest and last longer.
hope this was of help.

DHD, You did not say what size boat your using it on.. If you have something simular to a Lund 1775 Pro-V, a 24vlt. 60lb. motor is not to bad.. If your boat is HIGH sided you want a strong motor as well..(wind ) If your boat is bigger than a Lund 1775 you may want to think about a 36vlt. motor.. Shaft length will depend on depth of boat.. (56in. is ok for a Lund 1775..60 is better).. down side is bigger motor = more batteries & weight.. upside = better performance in rougher water & wind.. Hope this helps.. Tight Lines, Bob Ritt
The difference in price between a PinPoint 12V and a 24V is around $100. (Plus the price of a second battery.)
The difference in performance is HUGE. You'll troll easier in wind and chop, and you'll run 3-5 times longer on a battery charge.
