Shadowman, where exactly is it you are fishing? I got the message on the other post to E-mail you but was having problems. As you know I am an avid fisherman of Pymatuning Lake but me and a friend would like to find another spot and also fish for Saugeye. How long is it from Pymatuning and what city is it you fish in? Does the fishing stay good all winter into the spring and what do you use as bait and tackle. Jigs with minnows? What size boat is perfect for this type of river fishing? I would like try this type of fishing. Is three rivers to far south of where you are fishing?

well i promised a report so even though it isn,t much of one, fished morning till about 1.30 pm with only 3 sauger and a sheepshead caught but from the four other boats i spoke with that was 3 fish better than them combined, fished from 8 ft to 30 ft and got the sauger in 29 ft on a bare 1/4 oz jighead with a minnow, couldn,t get bit on anything else and the hits i got were very very light, lots of guys fishing the shore up by the dam and did see 2 small walleye or sauger caught, river is a bit on the dirty side but it had good current and not high at all,, left before i had planned to due to a throbbing knee but thats life, anyways was good to get out and can,t wait to get back the water temp was 55 on 2 different dept finders so things should break loose anytime now.

130.00 and i do think that they will let you share the cost with someone else which is great if you have someone else who has a boat you can both use the same permit.

hi mowallytrkr, heading up that direction within the next week. My boy is home on leave from Iraq and I told him I would take him on a trip up there. How many locks does the Allegheny have? I heard 9. Which one would be your favorite? Would like to make a good day trip and lock thru a couple of pools. Are the crappie starting to bunch near the dams? Usually a good sign the sauger and eyes are showing in numbers. Like to get a sack of them too. Any helpful hints would be appreciated to us 2 rookies. Is there a guy named Shadowman fishing in those parts? Heard he ketchs a few up there. Hope we can get some before he ketchs em all. :-) Russell

russ its been quite a few years since i been up to # 3 where mo was talking about but it sure is nice up there just a bit smaller than hpd, after reading his report i,m going to have to drag myself up there, if you lock thur at hpd than # 3 is the next one up, they get some real nice eyes up there but i think the better #s are down below, last time i was up there i fished off the dam wall along side old rt 28 and i know theres a launch below but its a steep bugger, if i make it out in the morning i have to stop up there for some bait and i may just put the boat in up there and fish that strecth, talk to ya later.

Russ, not sure on the number of locks on the river. Have only lived out here about 3 years and haven't explored as much as I should. The top three spots I have fished on the Allegheny this time of year are the locks 3,4 and 5. The lock at Ford City is also a favorite. Never have done HPD but plan on this season. It seeems the spinners, drifted along transition depths have really been working better since late Sept to present but I have boated a couple nice eyes on shad raps also. Deer Creek right up stream from the steep ramp Sahdowman is referring to is always worth a spin or two. I plan on cutting the boat loose at the Harmarville ramp tomorrow morn. Good luck this weekend if you get out.

Mo-Tom, thanx for the info. Heading up in the morning also. We will be putting in on the Southside. My boys never been up there, so I'm gonna take him for the long ride. He heads back to Iraq Wed. so I want to get him out at least once. We'll be at HPD pretty early but dont know the lock schedule. Would like to lock up into at least 2 pools above just for the ride, and fish back. I'm assuming you guys will be in the next pool above HPD. Hope to see ya there!:-) Russell
