Are the results from the Huron Tournament posted anywhere?

Interested in hearing about the winning techniques and location.

I can tell you that at weigh in before I left Den's team had around 38 lbs and that was the most before I took off. My team had 25lbs and we kept 17 on the day. We threw back 5 and lost 2 at the boat. Our best rig was jet 40s behind small boards with tangerine stingers 130 or so feet back. Im kinda anxious to see what won as well.

Our 5 fish entry weighed 31 pounds. Found 6 pounders but couldn't find the big ones. We boated 18 fish with a total weight of 86 pounds. Dipseys worked a bit better than jet 40's.

We fished the sandbar area close to the canada line.

I think the winning weight was around 48 pounds.

Tim, You are right 47+ won then there were 3 weights between 39 & 41 pounds, and down from there. (We fell into the down part 34.4 pounds)

The 34/23 (middle numbers) and on out north to even the 38 line was where most fished. Dipsys deep did most of the damage although, I've beeen told that Gary on Blue Dolphin (one of the top finishers) was pulling cranks (Reef Runners 180 - 200 back). Copper spoons with pinks or reds were good.

Hope this helps. Steve will be posting a run down.

Tim, your getting a new watch from me for X-mas.:)

The 39 line was also good. We weighed 37 and our big fish was 9#. We found 1 good area and caught a 4 man limit on spoons and cranks. Dipsey/spoons ticking bottom, 3 colors/RR, 5 colors/Ripstick and RR's 160-200 back were best. Chrome was better than copper for us. Good day overall and a big thanks to Steve for a good tournament!

Huron Fundraiser Results
Here are the results (no computer for me on the weekends - I spend too much time in front of it during the week).

First - I'd like to thank everyone that supported the event by fishing it and of course the sponsors that donated over $1000 as well as some nice prizes so we could guarantee good payouts. We ended up with 40 teams and 120 total people ended up fishing the event. 31 teams entered the optional Big Fish contest.

Entry fees raised $6000 (120 x $50 per person)
Big Fish entries raised $1550 (31 x $50 teams)

50% of the entry fees went to the Huron Athletic Boosters Club. We were able to raise $3750 for the kids!

The following businesses donated cash and / or prizes:
South Shore Marine, Reef Runner Tackle, Huron IGA, ACE Hardware,Berardis Resturaunt,Gull Motel,Huron Sports Center,Huron Lagoons Marina, Holiday Harbor Marina, Cranberry Creek Marina, Royal Carribean Cruises.

For a first time event we were happy with the results - learned a few things we will do differently next year to make things easier during registration and weighin. We do plan to make this an annual event. I've gained a new respect for all tournament directors - a lot more to it than meets the eye. Also a big thanks to the volunteers from the Huron Booster Club during registration and weighin and the members of the Huron Freshman Footbal Team for assisting with the weighin and with docking the boats.

Steve Nofltz from South Shore Marine and the Huron Boosters Club approached me with the idea of doing the tournament as a fundraiser and Steve coordinated everything with the Booster Club and also solicited the donations from the local businesses.

Also a big thanks to Doug Steinwart and his staff at The Huron Boat Basin for all the help.

Thanks to Denny Braun from the Sportsman's Outpost for providing the bumpboard for measuring fish, and for spreading the word about the tournament and the fishing reports.

Big Fish Contest:

Yes, I do need a new watch (or a faster boat)! Sounds like we stayed on our first spot way too long. With the marks that we had, I thought it was a matter of time/presentation before we started to really tear 'em up. Once we finally moved east, we picked up 4 in about 45 minutes and then nothing for the next 2 1/2 hours. Our two best were 8 and 7 lb. One came on a dipsey/perch Stinger spoon and one one a Gold Eridecient RR 150' back. It sure felt good to get out on the lake again!

Again, good job Steve and Huron Athletic boosters.

Tim

Steve:

My team wants a "do over". We were confused. My one partner was watching the golf channel and told us that a lower score was better than a higher score. We just naturally thought it would apply to fishing tourny's as well. If we would have been right I think we would have won it all!!!

Here are some details I received in emails and conversations with some of the teams that kicked our butts!

ONCE THE WIND STOPS BLOWING IT WILL BE TIME TO GO TO WORK AND LOCATE THE FISH AND GET A PROGRAM GOING AGAIN.

This is from Captain Ray Vargo - Erie Therapy - team that won overall and big fish:

Hi Steve We spent all our day within 1 1/4 mile north/south of the 38/24 line. First two big fish came early on reef runners 25' back then 2 oz. then 150' total back. Nothing on them after the first hour and a half. Then the spoons on dipsies took over on and off. Then 30 jets 140 back on both scorpions and stingers. The big fish came on a dipsy with only 35 mnutes of fishing time left on a monkey puke scorpion. There was dead silence on the boat, when he surfaced and we were able to see that we only had him with one barb !! But, all my hooks on my spoons have been replaced with mustad hooks. Once in the net, the silence ended and the high fives started !!

This is from Chis Songer (GetReel) - he fished with Captain John Solecki aboard So-Lucki - 3rd Place overall:

Steve, We fished north and west of the sand bar, Closer to the Canadian line than most. We moved into the pack later in the afternoon and ran past you on the way in.
We put one more of our weight fish in the box trolling through the pack. We hit a pocket of fish and had 3 one at once.
We had a mix of fish all day, Eaters the biggest was 28.25in, The fish we got came throughout the day and different places and programs.

The best producer was Dipsy 3.5, 110 back on Starboard side with Greendolphin raspberry tape back, Doctored that morning. Pulled 2 or 3 of tournament fish, One or 2 on jet 30 I think it was shrimp and only one tournament fish on a gold orange belly, black scale side Reef runner 130 back.

Details from Gary Zart - Team Blue Dolphin:

i didnot pull a tourney fish until 12;45 I started at the 33.5 22.5 where i had pulled 48 lbs without even ytrying on thursday in 3 hours and then got out of there. went searching on friday for a secondary spot never found one. at 11;30 i told the guys we had to move north we went 5 mile north i think same west number lost a big one right away on a worm harness 110 back 3.5 setting. between 8-10 lbs half way in and thought this is not my day. then the cranks took over for me and never stopped 150 back froot loop with 2 ounces 30 ft in front. the only differant setup that worked with two minutes to go while pulling rods i have ray beat on this one was the 10+ lber on a one setting 70 back on a coyote stinger. that was my kicker fish. Never pulled a tourny fish on rasberry dolphin just eaters. Congrats to ray vargo and the other top finishers and it was nice to see all you guys again tightlines gary blue dolphin 2

And if anyone cares about what we did to end up in 9th place on Team FreeByrd...
We started out at the 32.5N / 22.5W running all dipseys and one reefrunner. We pulled a good fish in the first half hour on a dipsey with full size Chicken Wing Scorpion. I believe it was a 2 setting back 85 feet. We stayed there way too long with not much action other than a few 4 pound and under fish. We made a move around noon and stopped around 36N 24W. Stuck with the dipseys and pulled two more nice fish in the 7-8 pound class in the first 45 minutes both on full size Rasberry Dolphin copper back stingers. 4 setting dipsey back 125 and a 3 setting back I believe 105. We pulled several more fish but nothing over 5 pounds. For the last hour I put out one big board and ran some 40 jets. That didn't help.

There was definitely more action going North of the 38 line from what we heard but was stayed put - probally in the first spot for too long.

Steve
