Fished off the second pier last night from 10:00 pm to midnight. Got one; 8 lbs. and lost one. Some other guy had one before I got there. Used the Clown Husky, retrived and jerked it to triger strikes. There were some fish in the area judjing by the rolls and splashes. A good start and it should only get better, hopefully this year they will not back out again!!!

Good Luck!!!

What exactly are you talking about when you say secomd "pier"? Do you mean the rock intake jetty in front of the CEI plant? Where are you fishing? I'm unaware of any piers in that area except for the rock intake and discharge jetties.

Im planning on going up in the afternoon Thursday for perch and then walleyes at dusk and into the night so Im kinda interested also. I think Fishcrazy has been fishing mainly west of downtown so far. What were you pulling??? Cranks, stickbaits??? I know the fish are there last week but couldnt get any to take.

Thanks

In the rock wall streaching east from the jetty you will find five concrete fishing flats. We've been calling them "piers" for lack of a better name. The first "pier" would be the large, two stage one, east of the jetty. Then you got four more eastward, there's paths through the rock wall leading to each one. The jetty pier is the "small horse shoe" and the intake pier is the "big horse shoe". The there's a straight pier at the intake, that's called: "inside the horse shoe". All the regulars there would know them by this names.

Good Luck!!!

I've been on the west side and E 72nd with the same faith as you. I pull Huskys and ReffRunners. Last night I did see quite a few fish feeding in front of the "piers" all night I was there. I was on the rocks there a few times this year but last night it was the first time I saw them feed, so we should start getting them with the boat too. I will be there Thursday night also but I'm to sure yet wich side. I'll give you holler on the radio!

Good Luck!!!

Fishcrazy, thanks I see where your comimg from now. The pier thing threw me off. I was a regular at the "hooks" back in the 80's. I threw the large 7 inch floating/diving rapala, I think it's the number 14. It was unusual for there to be more than 2 or 3 people there and generally I was the only one there. Limits were fairly common within the first two hours of dark off the outside of the turn on the large hook. The fishing dropped off substantially when they stopped generating. I have'nt been there much in the last several years but I may give it another shot.

Hey all night time guys if anybody has a open seat for any week day I have been wanting to get out and do some night time eyes, my trailer is broke so I can't get out on my boat, I have lots of cranks, rods, in line boards, and money for whatever, let me know as I am very good in the dark, sounds stupid but I have had some real puts on my boat at night and almost made them swim back to shore.... and I know how to net a walleye, I pound them in the spring over at the gold coast but never fished 72nd at night and want to really bad, you can e-mail me at kevin@oxcyon.net.. figured I would ask.. sometimes you just don't have someone willing to fish at night in the cold.and not beach about it

I do hear about "the good old day" from the guys there who have been fishing the area for "generations" too bad those were my "youth" days when fishing was not on my agenda!! This times if you get two, three fish in a couple of hours you're doing good, but that's better then nothing. The spring of 2001 was as good as any though, limits noght after night. Anyway, fishing's been better last then the night before, so the fish are on Q this year. There were about 10 cought on the secont "pier" and a few more on the third. I had to work two hours for mine (7 1/2 lbs), bit there were a couple of guys who had three by 10:00 pm, I was there from 10:00pm to 12:00am.

Good Luck!!!

Fishcrazy, Franjesh, you guys do any good Wed. night? Have you ever noticed any correlation between wind direction and fishing success? Such as off shore winds/bad fishing, onshore winds/good fishing?

I have done the best with South winds but, I did well a few times with E and NE winds. They're starting to get a few here and there.

I made it an early night off Gordon. 2 of us got our 60 perch and had probably that many throw backs then went in and hit the walls for eyes. I started at the horseshoe and there were fish breaking water everywhere but we were only able to snag a large shad in the back through there, I didnt realize how scummy they were until now. Plus there were guys fishing off the rocks and I couldnt get in tight like I wanted to so back over to the wall right out of Gordon. Only one eye, 6.2 lbs off the old faithful suspending Rattlin Rogue- Clown behind the small board.

Dot, I have done better all summer with E-NE winds rather than SW, sounds backwards. There were a couple times I saw the NE forecast and almost didnt go but turned out to be some of the best days. I prefer the any wind as long as I get fish!
