I've just recently been told by a few people that to charge a deep cycle battery you need to have a charger that is throwing a minimum of 10 amps. Anything lower will greatly reduce your battery life. Is this true?

I got a 1.5 amp charger/maintainer for Christmas a few years ago and thats what I use to charge my bowmount battery with. Its a group 27 battery and if its fully (rarely) drained, it takes about 3 days to charge. It will fully charge my battery overnight under typical conditions. Do I need to reevaluate my charging? Thanks

Mattman,
here are some FAQ's on deep cell batteries:

I've heard trickle charging is best, because the electrolyte has more time to penetrate the plates during the longer charge.

You are trying to bail a Pro V with a teaspoon. It will work but there a lot better methods. There is a lot of mystery and misunderstanding about batteries, battery chargers and other electrical things. Lots of bad advice, old wives tales and B/S. Personally... I've never fully understood it and don't think I ever could, so I play it safe and go with the manufacturers recommendations. WORKS FOR ME !!!!
