fixed position trolling plate: do they work?

I have a 60 hp. johnson motor it trolls at about 2.0 to 2.25 mph.
I want to be able to troll much slower than that. By using a fixed position trolling plate, what kind of performance can I expect? Thanks

I bought the Hydro-trol from Cabelas. I also have a 60 Johnson. I don't have the slowed down speed yet. Just got a gps for xmas haven't been out yet. I can tell you -it slows me down to the point where I'm giving it a little throttle to keep moving its not idle just above - I didn't feel I could trol slow enough without it - had to make the investment. Gotta believe its less than 1 mph though. I know it can troll too slow for pulling cranks. Works great.
