I've been following the previous strings with some interest. Should we be allowed to use two lines? or is one just fine?
It seems that the people that have been in favor of the new measure have justified their cause with statements like; "it'll put me on the pattern faster", "it'll allow me more action while trolling", "everyone else is doing it", or "it won't make a difference!"
The current walleye bag limits in Minnesota are based on the current fishing methods that we presently have in force. And even these are being questioned as being too liberal. And this is with just ONE line in the summer
Walleyes are not as easily released as other species of fish. Case in point. The current sportsman harvest set for Millie Lacs next year is set for just under 300,000 lbs. This does not mean that sportman will be able to ever take 300,000 lbs. The DNR includes the 30% mortality rate caused by catch and release in this total. ( 90,000 lbs.) This means that in reality only 210,000 lbs will be able to be removed from the lake. Those 30% count againest the total.
If it truly doesn't make a difference... then we won't miss it..so why should we worry about getting it???
But it seems that most of the people in favor of it, somehow think it will improve their catch rates. And if this the case, then the DNR has already calculated the 30% of those "caught and released" fish will die....
So indeed it WILL make a difference.
