Maybe there is such a thing as a stupid question? lol Any chance of decent water anywhere off the south shore? Sat forecast makes the long drive tempting but can not catch fish closer to home if its all mud. No answer at Den's.
TIA

Topless,
I have been watching the Lakevision cams and its been alot calmer than forecast the last few days at least near the cams. I am considering trying the Marblehead area either tomorrow or Sunday, not sure yet. I guess my plan is gunna be taking a bucket of shiners and Jig blades, Rap's and troll slow with sticks and snap weights and if that all fails then look for perch. Ive never fished Erie this late in the year so if anyone has some advice Id like to hear it.
I'll be on channel 79 if anyone is out- call bad boyz

Brian, I don't know what the water looks like either but since the boats not stored yet we'll probably go out from Mazurik tomorrow. Chances are with all this snow melting it will be muddy but some clean water may be available and if not we'll use some Vibee's to try and wake them up in the dirt. We'll be on 79 and i'll have my cells but won't be out til around noon or later.

We took a look at the Lake last night off Lake Shore drive here in Port Clinton and it was fairly clean, at least from the shore. The winds have been calm since Christmas evening. Going to put the electronics back in the boat and give it a try out of Mazurks today. Going to bring some shiners ( if I can find any ) and have the jigging stuff as a back up if I can't get a trolling program to go. Greg, Marc or Bob give me a ring if you are going and/or need a ride.

Mazurik had snow on the ramp at 3:30 PM Sat. Iced in but prob. breakable. Lake looked open. Brian - Sign not wood.
Ramp dry & ice was breakable in close at Catawba. Alternating rows of open water & 2" chunk ice froze together out around Clinton reef. Looked like skim ice between the rows further out. Miller ferry was running and it looked open over that way. Coast Guard launched at Catawba & swung by for a quick safety check before taking a sunset cruise. They ran fast even after dark.
Trolled 20-24 ft near the reef for a bit and moved in to the mainland break at dark but it was dead calm & everything skimmed over fast. More marks in at the mainland break. I could just see the prop with dark glasses. No fish. In 4:30, out 6:30.
Pushed a lot of 1-2" chunk ice around on the way in.
Heard Dimpsey was froze. Gem/Pebble beach was open. Nice sunset.
Good Luck,
jc

We went out of Huron today because Mazurik and Catawba were thinly iced in. Must have been there right before JCarp. Huron was dirty and we never had a hit. tried jigging for an hour or so and then trolled. Fished from the Lighthouse to about Sawmill.
There was no ice on the lake at all but there was a small amount floating on the river. The river was skimming over on the way in an hour or so after dark.
We'll be going out of Mazurik in the morning. The water looked to be much better over there.

I also fished out of Huron tonight from about 5:30 to 10:00 PM
The river was iceing over pretty good by the time I came in! I think I was the only one on the lake when I quite do to the lake was even starting to skim over with ice. Thank god I stop on the way up to buy some rock salt because the ramp was a sheet of ice when I got back in. The water was cloudy, I marked a ton of bait everwhere with lots of med. to large fish mixed in but no takers. I was slow trolling blue and silver jerks. I went 2 to 3 miles West and about 3 to 4 miles East. There were a few guys on the pier but it didn't look like much was going on. :(
