Hi Guys,

I'm looking for electronics for my boat. Which is the route to go? I know Eagle is made by Lowrance, but is there enough difference to justify the price ?

I'm interested in a unit for use off of my bow trolling motor. Is there any difference with the X-49 and the Fisheasy by Eagle?

In the catalogs I receive, the captions under the X-49 vs. the Fisheasy, are remarkably similar. The only difference is the picture. The X-49 has arches to indicate fish, whereas the Fisheasy uses fish symbols to indicate fish.

Any, and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Rigs

I've owned several Eagles. They have all given me problems with leaking seals. The one unit was back for warranty repairs 3x before they finally upgraded to Lowrance unit.

Thanks Gilliigan. Why would Lowrance skimp on sealing the Eagle compared to the Lowrance finders. Do you think maybe you got a bad casing?

I have never owned an Eagle, but have 2 buddies with them. I have Lowrance. I can't say that they have had many problems with theirs, but they both comment on how my Lowrance is nicer in terms of resolution, quality and upgrade features.

In fairness, I have the LMS 350A that, at the time, was top of the line and they have midranged Eagles, but both their tranducers went flakey as did one of the screens. The pixels died in the middle.

Since both are made in the same shop, I do not know why one is better then the other. Like Ford/Mercury or Chevy/GMC, they should come off the line with the same quality.

From what I gathered talking to rep they had tons of units returned with seal problem. I was origionaly told that if I was leaving my unit mounted under a boat cover (which I was) that heat build up was the cause for seal failure. From this point on the unit was never on boat except when fishing. It still lost 2 more seals. Eventually they offered no questions asked for many Eagle owners to upgrade to a Lowrance equivelent for a small $. Besides my unit I personaly know of 3 guys that had similar situations. I have also responded to at least 4 or 5 people here at WC that had the fogging problem from bad seals. I liked the unit when it worked.

I am now running x85. As the Eagle they are quite simple to use and I've not experienced to date any seal problems.

I have an Eagle - no problems, not a bad unit. I fished with people who have Lowrances and while I realize they were higher end units I really liked the display and backlighting. My next will be a Lowrance.
