I'm interested if anyone has used any of the global mapping gps systems in Ontario? In particular Sabaskong Bay, and Kenora area. How much detail do they give you in terms of islands, etc.? Thanks for the help.

I run the Lowrance GM100 handheld mapping unit. It uses the same mapping data as the GM1600. These maps have very good detail in the United States (with the detailed maps loaded from CD) and poor outside the US. I have not found a source for Canadian maps to install. I would be appreciative if someone knew of one forwarded the info to me.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-10-00 AT 02:22PM (CST)[p]I can speak for the Lowrance GlobalMap 2000 in the Kenora area. I've used one the last two years along with a C-Map cartridge for the North half of Lake of the Woods with great success.

For inland fishing here in Florida I use the IMS carts which are just fine.

I would NOT recommend it without the C-Map cart. The Lowrance IMS carts or built in "World Map" do not have near the detail of the C-Map. Built into the C-Map data base are 30 foot depth lines, many islands (obviously not all), navigation routes, marker bouys, etc.

CAUTION: You still must be VERY careful in unfamilar water or you'll be looking at a new gear box for the motor, if not worse.

Others like Garmim and their cartridges may be just as good, but I've never seen them in action. All my experience has been with C-Map.

Good luck.
