I am getting my gear ready for spring and I have decided to add lead-core to my arsenal. My initial plan was to spool up some 20 lb dacron as backing, use a nail knot to attach the lead-core and then another nail knot to attach a 8 lb. mono leader. The reel is a Penn 309, and the rod is an 7'6" Fenwick MH. Am I on the right track? I would appreciate your input.
Thanks,

For backing, I use Trilene Big Game about 12# and then 3 colors of 18# leadcore. I use about a 30' section of 12# flourocarbon for a leader. The Penn reel should be an excellent choice. Just remember to set the drag light as the leadcore has no stretch. You can lengthen the leader if you prefer more shock absorbancy. For rods, I prefer something about 8' with good backbone and a lighter tip for shock reasons. Good Luck!
