Where is the best place to hunt for walleye during the late March and April periods. I am relatively new to this lake and have spent most of my time on Berlin and West Branch. I always here about the cemetary area at Mosquito but have never really had much luck there.

THATS cause all the fish are dead at the cematary LOL / ok .that is a good spot to start theres a road bed ALL the way across the lake I jig my way back and forth ,all so go up to the dam east side SHALLOW BE careful and jig /cast green jig/mninnie .find a mos map and hit the stumps .

How has it been up there lately? I'm planning on heading for Erie next weekend but, it looks like some gale force winds tomorrow will stir the lake up. I tried it once last year and ended up with three small eyes. From what I've heard, it's better to anchor this time of year and jig vertically. I was drifting last year.

Fished there on Saturday. We thought the same, anchored with jigs, however no luck with the sunshine & calm waters. Fished old road bed and sand bar point.

I also tried saturday....very calm, no need to anchor....Tried every "hot-spot" I know, nothing. I will try again next week, weather permitting. It will pick-up soon. Laterz, Duckman

Thanks for the info. That is a great place to start. Of course, the weather is not cooperating right now. Thanks again and happy fishing.

i fished this lake for years. the east side is best for walleye, in my opinion. especially when is is wind swept. i suggest literally mid way on the lake. look for an island (sometimes the state nets there) and along shore a park bench. this area has fingers. if the drift is any sort of west to east it is best since you will cover the various depths of the fingers. if it is south to north, you can stay in a depth zone so if you are not getting anything at a constant depth move out or in. when you catch walleye (and this is overlooked by most) don't drift the rest of the length of the lake. rather work the area where you caught one. usually there will be plenty more. some folks drift that whole lake end to end, pick up fish but overlook the hot spots where they catch. i also suggest a slip bobber witha jig/minnow which allows you to keep it in the bite zone. for the most part the lake needs wind to produce or a trolling effort. but wind is key. the more wind the sahllower i fish. for a month or so any body can catch some walleye or crappie, but if you focus you can limit.
good luck. watch the crowders - you start catching and they horn right in!
