Looking for any updates on these or other Colorado waters. Was out testing new fishfinder last weekend at Chatfield and fished a bit but did not do any good, did not see anyone do any good either. Fish were stacked up off dam in prep for spawn, no biters.

Anyone doing any good on walleye here in Colorado right now? It looks like a pretty nice weekend coming up, would like to get on a decent walleye bite, wipers are alright too!?

i am asking the same thing. new to CO but an experienced walleye fisherman from Ohio/Canada and ready to put the boat in and give it a try. never been on any lakes out here yet and probably will be going by myself. unless my one and only fishing friend is free. thinking about N. Sterling but not sure about water level. if you get any good ideas for this weekend and credible reports please drop me an email. thanks and good luck

We will be on Boyd this Saturday beating the water to a froth. I'd bet quite a few CWA members will be there too seeing the Ice-Breaker Tourney is mid-April.

no current report...will start the boat up saturday, was it north sterling that experienced the killer red alge bloom last season? just for kicks, after dark go to chatfield, park near the platte bridge, and bring a flashlight and check the first ripple area just above the bridge

Come on out to Boyd. Will be in a maroon and cream Crestliner, walkthru windhsield, Rude powered. I thought the red bloom was the year before last but Eric/Co should know for sure.

Many years ago (20 or so) we used to go to Horsetooth and stand on the bridge with flashlights and look at those crazy underwater fireflies. I have not heard of it being seen at Chatfield though but dont doubt it.

Our Saturday plans are to hit Boyd in the am/day then Chatfield after dark. Come one/come all but bring your own boat, mines full.

The algae bloom was in Prewitt Res. last year. North Sterling is open to boating and has plenty of water, last report was 75% full and is still filling. I plan on hitting it on Sunday. Reports from out here are the cats and wipers are being caught around the inlet. No reports on the walleye.

I will be on the north side of Darby Cove Saturday, putting covers on goose pits so if you see me, at least honk as you go by.

I guess since the wife and I are new CWA members ourselves we should be out at Boyd beating the water to a froth in prep for the Ice Breaker. We're signed up for the tourney, but we are trying not to take it too serious.

Welcome aboard Austin. My wife and I are fishing "The Ice Breaker" together as well. You will find a lot of eager trout at Boyd right now. Good luck, I'll be out fishing the evening bite these next few weeks, Collie

Collie is right, got the boat out for the first time this year and went out to Boyd this morning. If you throw anything shiny or metal into the water and speed it up a bit the trout will nail it. Actually, the trout are decent sized and are fun to catch, but I still have a limit in the freezer of those I caught through the ice so I didn't have any interest in keeping any more. I had a few crappie hits, but nothing at all for walleye. I think I will try Lonetree on Sunday to see how things look out there.

DK, Tom Bruno told me several years ago about shining a flashlight off the bridge at Chatfield. I have never tried it, but it must be quite a sight. Was out there today and caught nothing. Did see two walleyes caught in the area near the stumps by trollers. Also saw some nice ones pulled out of the gill nets by the DOW. I am going to help them pull nets at Cherry Creek on Tuesday. Should get some real hogs over there.

We were out on Boyd on Saturday afternoon. Lots of fishing boats on the lake! We caught 5 rainbows between me and the kids (all released this time). At the ramp, I saw a lot of fish being taken out of the lake. One lady with a bucket of fish asked me, "So what is the limit for trout here, anyway?!?!" Aren't you supposed to know that BEFORE you go out!?!? Ugh. When I told her, she said, "Well I was wondering so it's a good thing we stopped" but I don't know if she was over her limit or what since her partners weren't there at the ramp with her.

Anyway, since the kids are on spring break and the weather will be nice, we plan to head out again on Tuesday.

What time were other folks out there on Saturday? I was in a green Lund Fisherman with a Suzuki DF140. You could probably hear my little three year old son babbling all the way across the lake...

Hey Mike, I thought that might be your boat I saw out there. I recognized your boat from the photo link you gave me when I was looking for a boarding platform/ladder. We passed you on the west side of the south part of the lake mid afternoon, a black Lund ProSport w/Mercury. We also caught several trout and only one 12" walleye.

Mike,

I remember seeing your boat as well! I went by you when you were closer to the shore on the south side of the lake if I recall correctly. Too bad I didn't know beforehand who you were or I would have stopped by! I'll remember your boat for next time, I guess. So, did you or did you not hear my little guy babbling all day long!?! LOL.

We were on the water from 7:30 til about 2. Packed up at 2 and went to Chatfield for an evening troll - blanked there too. I was in the Crestliner with two other guys. We caught 4 trout, 0 walleye and about 20 bass (once we got bored) back in the marina cove. All were less than 10 inches but were fun to watch rise to a top water.

Hear your 3 year old babbling? Not over my two partners, ages 42 and 36.

Dave, we(Collie and Mike(CO)) went by you about noon in the white Pro-V. The trout are willing. The early spring bite usually is fairly slow at Boyd and the temps have the fish in the old spawning mood. Last year saw a tremendous boom in the largemouth, white bass and shad, so I think theres plenty to eat and it will make of an interesting "Ice Breaker". It sounded like the DOW was concerned with the temps raising pretty quick and the fish rippening too quickly out of Chatfield, thats Colorado for you last year it was too cold! Collie

All right, I see plenty of guys fishing Chatfield everyday on my way to work, anyone got an update for that Lake?

Also flew over Sterling Res on the way back from Milwaukee this weekend (work, no fishing for me in Wisconsin)and it looked full from up in the air, anybody got info on what is going on out there, is it full?

Ice breaker coming up at Boyd, everybody got tight lips or is it just that slow every where?

I'll be fishing at Boyd Sunday, any heads up would be a help!

Was out at N. Sterling this evening. The wiper bite has been fair to good around the inlet. Some saugeye also have been caught there. On Sunday four walleye smallest being 17". They were all caught on a live bait presentation near rock piles. Tonight we managed 3 trout and 1 walleye about 14". The lake is about 70 percent full and filling. Most of the cover that will be useful for the CWA tourney is still high and dry. We really need the water to come up or the bite will be tough. Those of you that are fishing the tourney, I would suggest several days of prefishing as finding decent walleye on this lake can be tough to near impossible. I live in Sterling and fish the lake as much as possible. Last year the DOW had to stock shad as they were few in number. The wiper in my opinion have been a bad thing. The size and number of the wiper compared to the walleye is terrible. After fishing this lake all of my life and all I can say is she isn't what she used to be!!!

Thanks for the updates and info on Sterling.

We used to fish it about ten years ago and did pretty well, I was surprised the tourney was going to be held there, all I have heard is walleye are tough to come by. Was out last summer and could not find one for all the wipers. It will be interesting to fish the tournament as I don't have a clue where to find a walleye there these days.
