Last year I heard of running a double lure method off of dipsey divers and even saw it on the divers web site. Well I tried this method with a deep diving crank and a spoon (or nightcrawler harness and a shallow diver with the same) on the big dipseys and needless to say my dipsey planed to the surface every time. What kind of hints can you guys give me to improve my methods as Im always looking for more.
Thanks Chad

Where you made your mistake is trying to run a deepdiving Crank. The Dipsey is your diver ,you can only run shallow divers as the big lip on a deep diver will steer it to the top. Run something like a Ripstick or Jr. Thunderstick and you will be OK

One more thing is you should do this using the (# 1) diver (The Bigger one)It would be to much for the smaller divers to handle I believe. You didn;t really say what your set up was so I can't comment much on that.

Chad,
I run "double lures" all the time of my inline boards but not on dipseys. I use a 3 way swivel , then a 4' leader and a deep diving crank and a 3' leader and a stinger spoon. The deep diver takes the spoon down to where i want it.
Like Airwave said, you can't use a deep diving crank with a dipsy and i dont think a shallow diver in conjunction with another lure would give you enough seperation between the two.

Did you reverse the lengths? If I run my diving lure on a longer leader it always tangles with the top spoon. I use a 3' leader to a crankbait, and a 4' leader to a flutter or light spoon. Works fine for me without tangles.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-01 AT 11:50AM (CST)[p]Nope.
i run the crank on the longer leader. havent had any problems.
have heard of lots of pro's and con's of doing it either way though. I usually troll with these between 2-3 mph. whatever works.

I run the longer lead on the spoon side off a 3way in the spring time mostly waiting for the fish to change over to spoons. Then I just run the spoons for simplicity. I have also put one lead on the Dipsey like normal and put the other lead on the set screw on the bottom of the dipsey that holds the weight in place this works too but it is almost guaranteed a little tangle if you get a fish on. Always run the Short lipped baits on the bottom lead...Boatnuts version works well when the fish are higher in the column. Say 18' or higher.

Thanks for the info. Always more to learn.

I have not done it but you could run a 3 way above the dipsey and run a spoon or shallow running crank off of each. Better still, you could simply run a slider rig off the Dipsey line and hold depth w/ a rubberband.

Do you know how much the spoon effects the dive of the crank when running the 3-way? Can you assume that the deep diver is running right where the Presicion Trolling curve will put it on its own? Thanx for the input!

Chad, how is the 21' proline anyway. Don't have the cash now but have been dreaming about one. Would use it on lake Erie. Is it pretty seaworthy? Thanks for any info on this!
