I saw in the Cabelas Master Spring Catalog that they are selling Quantum Energy Reels for $60, they are normally $159 (according to Cabelas). Anyone have these reels? If so, how are they? I'm usually fishing Mille Lacs rigging or Leech rigging, jigging or spinning. Thanks for the help all!!

I'm pretty sure those are the same ones Bass Pro was selling for $49 @ clearance. They said they were $100 originally. Definitely called the Energy series. I decided not to buy any. If you hold the bail so it can't rotate - then move the reel handle - there is a lot of slop there. Better made precision reels - even in the same $50 price range - don't have that. I didn't want it at $50, much less $100 or $150.

For the record, I have a ton of Quantum stuff I love including Energy IM-7 rods and EX-501 baitcasters. I also have other rods from them that I think well of. This particular reel is a dud in my book.

For $50, look at the new Diawa Regal X or Z(something like that). The '01 versions seem like a great value. Way better drag than Shimano, larger diameter spools for longer casts, less line memory and faster retrieves. The 1500 series is a nice, light walleye reel.

I have several E5-2`s and love them. The reels in Cabelas are E-7`s. Don`t bother trying to order any. They had those same reels in a fall sales flyer and they were gone back then. Don`t know why they`re in the catalog because they don`t have any of them.

I have several E5-4's and E5-2's and Love em all. Never had any troubles out of em. Smooth and balance very nicely on a Bionic Blade or Extreme Rod.
