Since the walleye opener was this weekend does anyone have any fishing reports for Lake of the Woods? Have you heard from any family or friends that are up there now. Our group is headed up in 4 weeks and it can't get here fast enough. Have seen a couple of reports on other websites but they were only dealing with early lake trout fishing. Thanks for any info you have. You know how it is when you have the fishing bug and its so close.

Slow. Water is very dirty due to 4-8" rain in the area last week. Lots of logs/debris on river and some in the lake. Water temp in shallows on north side of Pine Island was 41F. Hundreds and hundreds of boats along the island on Sat. A couple of hands could count the boats on Sunday. Lots of goose eggs. Some managed to catch a few, but not many. Slow presentations while anchored provided limited success. Slow, slow, slow. Warm weather will help as will the clearing of the mud. I'm sure someone will tell you they did great, but I put on quite a few miles and didn't see anyone with any quantity to write home about.

We did pretty bad, first time to LOTW that we didn't catch shore lunch at least?
We did manage to catch 1 28 1/2" though.
You should be in good shape in a couple of weeks.

Good Luck

We were on the Ont. side Fri- Mon. Very slow! Water temps 45 to 47 winds from all directions. Fish were scattered. We picked up 17 from 16" to 28" in water from 8' to 21', mostly 10'- 15'.

Spinners and crawlers and some jigs and minnows. The water needs to warm up alot.

Fished pine Island, the gap Morris pt and beyond. It was by far the poorest opener we have had there ever.Three fish total. Water very cold 41-44. We had lots of rain again on 5/18 so I don't know what it will be like this weekend it is to stay cold.;(

Thanks for the info everyone. Our camp's internet service is down at the moment and we haven't gotten any reports from the site as of yet. I understand the weather has been a little rough with snow, rain and cold temps over the past couple of weeks. One good thing is that the water levels should be getting back to normal since they were down about 3 feet last year. Hopefully the weather will get nicer and the fishing will pick up.
