sandusky bay/river crappies...any advice?

Hi folks, I am new here and own a 16 foot aluminum with a 25 hp motor. I was interested in taking the kids out for some crappie fishing out around Catawba. (The big lake can get a little rough for them). I remember 25 years ago catching a mess of crappies down Fremont area off of a friend's dock. I know there is a nice untapped population of crappies out there and I would appreciate a litte assistance from "the experts" on these pages regarding when, where and how. I was told by a friend whos husband works at the Marine Max dealership that the crappies were biting on small jig/spinners in west harbor. A 16ft boat is perfect for perch fishing out in front of lakeside/marblehead, or out in front of cranberry creek marina. Cranberry creek marina has their own web site.
