opener was not very good for most people.stayed at a resort on the north end and when i left sunday night there were the remains of 5 walleyes in the fish cleaning house, 2 of which i had put in there saturday morning. water temps were 49 to 52. with the weather we have had the last few days and the luck people had on the opener people have been staying away. things may turn around if the sun ever shines again:-) i myself am alittle discouraged and i dearly hope i am wrong, but 85000 pounds of fish were "harvested" this year before opener even started :-( and i think this is beginning to take a toll on the lake -just my opinion

I was up this past weekend, weather was awful and fishing wasn't much better, but it beat working. Our group of 5 in two boats caught a grand total of 2 walleyes, 13" and 21". We fished the Big Pt. area Friday and that was real slow, but both fish came from or around that area. Sat we fished Wakon bay area and managed a few perch and some walleye bites. We were fishing lindy rigs in the day bobbers in the evening. Should've just fished w/ bobbers all day too and just moved around. Bait shop said they were starting to get some fish off the deep gravel. Sat eve our anchor wouldn't hold in the wind and we didn't fish. Sun was a washout.

I agree with the reports, slow to nonexistant action. Spent last Sat. on the water, cold, rain, wind......who could ask for more...lol
If I were heading this way, I would consider a better bite, but then again, not sure where that would be. Everything is really slow.

I have to agree...I have fished mille lacs for years and I have NEVER seen it this bad. I know some has to do with weather and some with the small perch available. But it makes a guy wonder, if the average fish weighed in at 3 lbs. ....that means over 25,000 walleyes were taken this spring....another 20+ thousand last year...and the year before....makes a guy think.

Mille Lacs walleye population is estimated at about 2 million, 25,000 fish is just over 1%. That is not the problem. Just too much bait fish right now.

I agree, you know there is a lot of bait fish in the lake, when you are anchored over a rock pile bobber fishing, and see clouds of bait fish go under you. Just a lot of feed right now. This is good for the lake, but not for the angler. The cycle will change and the bite will come back, just a matter of time.

I think it is ironic how all kinds of people were saying the DNR was ruining the lake 2 years ago because they weren't allowing enough big fish to be harvested. Now there is plenty of forage and the bite is really tough. This is the typical cycle of a Lake, it all balances out.
Where is Sternberg now?
