I have the chance to move there and wanted to hear from people who are familiar with the area. Is there good walleye fishing close, and what is the town like? Any and all information would be very helpful.
Thanks

I agree, Big Rapids, Grand Rapids or maybe Rapid River instead?

Rapid City is ENE of Traverse city, Mi., 20 to 30 miles away.

Fordnut, you are absolutely right! I was too lazy to get the map out previously. Rapid City = N44 50.003 W85 16.963. Looks like MANY places to fish around there. If you can make enough to live there I would not hesitate.

There is just about next to nothing in Rapid City, Mi. My brother-in-law lives there. Making a decent living there is not easy. More like scratching out a living as there just isn't much there in the way of terrific job opportunities. It wouldn't be too bad of a drive to Traverse City. Geographically, it's not a bad area. There is lots of stream trout fishing. Not too far to the Big Manistee. The walleye waters (for the most part) are Leelanau, Long, and Fife. All within a half hour drive. Lake trout in Elk Lake and Torch Lake. Fisherman's good area. But, in order to fish and afford the right toys to do so, I live in northwest In. and go up there several times a summer. Nice respite from the summer heat and humidity. Winters can be a bit on the harsh (and snowy) side; any northwest wind just piles it on. Remember not to blink twice when driving through town, you'll miss it.
