I just wanted to check and see if anyone knew a fairly decent lake to find some walleyes near eastern iowa. i don't mind traveling to nearby states to get on a good bite. i live within 25 miles of the mighty mississippi, but to tell the truth i feel her walleye population has really went down dramatically the last few years. i'm searching for a spot that can and has produced good numbers with some decent sized fish. i guess probably like everyone else. thanks for all the help. jim

My first thought is lake Rathbun. I'm not sure if that one would be to far south for you or not. I mainly went there for Crappie fishing but usually hooked a couple of Walleyes even while fishing shallow. On this site under "Fishing the Midwest" they posted some tournament results for that lake and it sounded like a good turn out. Good luck :)
