Got the new Bottom Line NCC 6500 unit and need to learn more about the C-map cartridges, such as where's the best place to get them, how accurate are they, etc. Anyone else using this unit? It sure looks sweet so far and I've only tried about half the features. It has so many features it will take me a while to learn them all. Also, it looks like the place where I plug the cartridges in under the dash of my boat might be able to get wet in a hard rain--is it a problem if this gets wet?
Thanks in advance for the info.
Fish-on, I have the NCC5300 with the C-Map cartridge reader. I searched all over and could not find maps at any better prices. I got mine directly from C-Map (I called their office in Massachusetts). I picked up the Illinois and Wisconsin "local" maps. The detail is good (I think it goes down to 2/10 mile), but I have heard it is much better if you pop for the better grade C-Maps (Super Lake series). However, I was in thick fog several weeks ago and used the map for navigation and it was right in relation to shoreline features. There are several channels from lake to lake on the chain that I fish and these channels are about 30' to 40' wide and they twist around. The GPS map showed me going right down the channel. I've heard that the Super Lake series of maps also have the contour lines overlayed onto the map and people that have used them said that they are right on. Nice feature for quickly locating mid-lake structure. Post again or e-mail me if you have any more questions.
Best Regards,
FJH

Do they have a website? Also, do you know where the super ones can be bought. I checked Cabela's in Owatonna and Prarie Du Chien and Bass Pro in Springfield, neither have them.
I'll bet there's somewhere on line they can be bought.

We are a board sponsor and sell C-map, Navionics, and Furuno mini charts. If you want to see what C-Maps are available, go to their web site at: http://www.c-map.com. (Make sure to put the dash between the c and map). Any questions, E-mail me!
