Don't know about Lock 3, but down around the Highland Park Dam, the river is green, rather clear and calm... it's also dropped rather nice too... I was up Pine Creek along Route 8 about 1 mile from the river and saw a 3 1/2 foot carp stranded in the shallows. Some kids were trying to get it back into a hole, but it kept swimming into the creek bank...

Anyway, you should have a fine time. Hope to hit the water between Sharpsburg and Cheswick too this weekend...

Good luck

Anyone have any luck between Cheswick and Sharpsburg lately? The river was rather green and calm the past couple of days before the rain on the 4th... might head down tonight...

I have been watching a lot of action around the Sharpsburg area the past couple of weeks, including the cleaning up for the CITGO tournament. Has anyone heard about the private dock that was there -- the guy usually has his stuff/shack set up by now, but it's still bare at 13th Street. I have seen people fishing since the water is low and pretty green, but the one day I stopped and poked around, two guys were fishing for catfish. Read someone caught a nice fish from shore at the dam earlier this week.

The Post Gazette had this story about building a ramp/access there...

The borough of Sharpsburg is sprucing up three blocks of riverfront property from 13th to 16th Street for the CITGO Bassmaster Classic this summer. Part of the plan is to secure funding from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to develop a launch site on the same spot.

Crews from Goodwill Industries have been clearing brush, dead trees and litter, and Aspinwall volunteer firemen scrubbed the tunnel and the streets of silt and mud from past floods, in hopes of receiving a grant through the Commission's new boat launch access program, said Sharpsburg councilman Larry Stellitano.

"We've applied for a $160,000 grant and this goes toward our in-kind match," he said.

More volunteers are needed to continue the effort, said Stellitano, who promised the borough will pay for diesel fuel and lubricants for those who bring their own chain saws and other equipment.

For more information or to help, call Stellitano at 412-475-1953 or the borough at 412-781-0546.

Has anyone tried docking at 13th street?. Is it open to the public now?
