Three of us are planning a trip to SD in a couple weeks and I am looking for some advice from the fisherman who frequent these two areas. After reading some of the recent posts, it sounds like things are really going well in the NE area lakes. What have things been like on Oahe(Akaska area)lately? If you were going to make the trip, where would you go?
I know both areas pretty well as I lived in Watertown for 4 years so I know they both can be very good.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Fished out of West Whitlock Sat. to Tuesday. Report is as follows:
Sat. Fished South and had slow action. I believe we fished too deep and didn't move enough. Others were catching fish.
Sun. Blown off. Did not fish.
Mon. Fished Swiftbird Creek. Had a great time with constant action. Lot's of small eyes with plenty of good solid fish mixed in. Biggest was around 21-21".
Tue. Same as Mon. Best depth is 12-20'
The fish look to be very healthy and had lot's of smelt in their stomachs.

I live in Watertown. I was out at Akaska last week and we did well. Many of our fish were 18 to 21 inches. We had one 28 inches. The fishing around Watertown is also good. Flip a coin! You might want to check the ramp conditions before you go to Oahe. It sounded like thy might close this week if the corps plans are followed. I have never seen the river this low!!!

Can I ask who this is. I used to live in Watertown and I taught at the high school.
Thanks for the info. Any way to keep up on the ramp closures? Will they have it on the G,F & P website?
Thanks in advance

I am from watertown also. I heard that the tourney at Lake Poinsett this last weekend produced some big fish. Winning team had 45 lbs with 12 fish is what I heard. They had 10 pounder and couple others around 7. Might try poinsett this weekend.
Can anyone in the Watertown area give a report on Lake Kampeska or Pelican. I have heard they are picking up some nice walleyes as of last week. We were thinking of going out to Chamberlain but just had a freind return from there and said they caught a lot of fish but very few keepers. Might go to Watertown instead if the bite is still on but have never fished there. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Pelican has been fair at best for the last week. I'd say poor but I know a few people are getting fish here and there. I've been on it twice in evenings after work and have nothing to show for it. Kampeska has been ok from the sound of it, but I haven't been on it and don't have a good report. Waubay is still going good, took 3 boys up there saturday, aged 3, 5 and 6, and they caught about 40 walleyes in 2 hours.

Kampeska is producing alot of small walleyes at the time. Pulling shad raps in about 6-9 feet.

H20 Teach, I have only been here a couple years teaching. I haven't heard of you. I teach in the elementary. I was born and raised here though. The GF&P should update the ramp situation. The recent flooding rains down river should help the situation.
I have been out to Pelican and done very well. Many fish from 16 to 25 inches. Pulling any shallow crank in the basin is the best. Have to cover water since there is almost no structure. The fish move from day to day. It is slowing down now. Haven't been out on Kam. Waubay is a great place to take the kids for action.
