Does anyone have any reports on Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland? I believe it is fairly close to the West Virginia line. Never been there before. Will be going there the first week in Oct. Wondering if the walleye and crappie will be doing anything. Planning on staying at the state park, but not sure yet where it is located on the lake.
Also, what other species should I target?
Thanks in advance for any help..

I fished it 2 years ago in July. We did well, catching walleye, crappie, yellow perch, northern pike, large and smallmouth bass, and rainbow trout. The lake has clean, clear water, with the weeds growing in deep waters. October probably is a good month to fish it, less crowds and fish moving into shallow water. We trolled for our fish using Hot 'n Tots when everyone else was either bass fishing or live bait rigging.

Fished Deep Creek for 30+ years If you plan on trollin tots, bring the vinegar and oil and the croutons for the giant salad ( weeds you will be snaggin ) Best method hands down: Jig n minnie with stinger hooks. The trollin technology is much more in-depth than tots on lead or steel.

Thanks for the reply... is there any particular place I can target for walleye and crappie? Bays, creeks, etc. Or someone I can contact to get maps, info, etc. I have a fishing buddy who lives in Gaitherburg, but don't believe he has fished this lake. I would love targeting walleye along the weedbeds. Any help along those lines in addition to what you have said would really be appreciated.

trolling is the best way to cover water and learn a lake. It just so happens that if you learn to do it right, get a good map, you can out fish anyone on Deep Creek, even the locals like I did.
