Take I80 (Turnpike) to rt 57N. Take it until it dead ends into Lorain Hotwaters ramp. I'd guess about two miles out will put you around 45 FOW.

Today was not the day to be on the lake around noon. Windstorm had me white knuckling the wheel for the 7 mile ride into the ramp. Soon as the boat was tied down, the wind and waves came to a sudden hault. I had a rainsuit on, but my clothes were still soaked. I did manage one eye, and lost another before the waves came.

I was out on the lake then too. We had 18 up until that point. We were in 58-60' of water. Big Dypsies--#4 back 110, #3--back 90, #2 back 80 and 20' jets out 150' were the ticket. Seemed like a multitude of copper stingers would work, but Confusion was one of the better choices. The fish are all over around Lorain and the spoon bite is on. Typical colors seem to work---think pink patterns on copper!

Did you try the 38-40 foot depths first before going out to 60 feet? I have Monday and Tuesday off and just wonder where best to start.

Steve B, I had 6.5 miles to go in that wind. Some of the nastier waves I have seen....going in every direction at 4-6 feet at least. I kissed the dock when I was tied up. I caught 8 in 2.5 hrs before the blow. Big Dipsy 90 back was the best. Biggest was 30" and 9.2 lbs.

I was back out of Lorain today--Sunday. I tried 38-40 ft.--2 sheepshead. Trolled all the way out to 32N-15W before getting three eyes in about 1/2 hr. The fish have scattered since yesterday, and I never really found them today. The only action I found or could decipher from the radio chatter was a SLOW bite out around th 32 line. Good luck fellas.

Fishfiner, caught 7 eyes at the 32-33/16-17 line. It was a slower bite than on Saturday for me too.

Started off edgewater in the am with plenty of good marks in 52' of water but no takers. We then trailered to lorain and hit it for a few hours late afternoon/ early evening. Once the SW winds picked up a bit so did the bite. They turned on for about an 1 1/2 hrs then shut off again just as the dark clouds rolled in and we picked up. Copper confusion #2 set back 65 was best and also got one on a deep diver bagley hot tiger (go to lure for us). 33/16 line with an east troll.

"off sick"
ps. what was up with those bees today.... what a pain. Word of warning to not wear yellow. They swarmed on a yellow trim football jersey I had on. Must have been 20 of them on my arm before I noticed.

The bees you encounter on Erie are Wild bees. The combimnation of bright colors along with cocanut scented tanning products, draws them like a magnet. My wike had a bright flowered suit on a few years ago and was using Hawain Tropics tanning lotion. WOW ... if she had 1 she had 50 bees on her, and didn't realize it. Would have been a bad deal if she'd have rolled over on them.

They were not at all aggressive, but we had to move to get rid of them. Then they'd start showing up again in about a half hour after we moved. Never have had the problem since. They must be able to smell the sweet stuff a long way off.

Good luck.

fished in a small tournament for ohiowaterfowler.com sunday out of neff rd.launch. a lot of hogs were caught in between 45ft and 60ft using 20 jets and boards. dipseys were scaring them away. boards only were the best program .fish were in the top 20ft of water.

was also out of lorain on sunday, was able to get 10 eyes average was about 22 inches(good eaters). Most came on inline boards with 20 jets back 100ft with spoons and worm harnesses. The fish seemed to shy away from the dipsey's, it was a fun day on the water, except for the bees and flys, glad the bees werent stinging cause i had about 5 land on my back at one time. I just must have smelled good to them

Any particular color on the jets?? We ran a #20 purple and #30 black off the big boards with no takers... 100 out. I generally try to stay with darker colors.. especially with the jets.
Thanks, Mark

I was Northwest of Lorain today in 40 feet to start, working out to about 51 feet, with only a six-inch walleye and a sheephead. Tried every Stinger I own behind 20 and 30 jets, 1 and 0 Dipseys at several settings. Even used downriggers, in fact the tiny walleye and sheep came off the downriggers. Oh well, I am off again tomorrow and hope to give it another shot, weather permitting.

Tim;

I frequently hear people on the radio calling for Tightline, would that be the name of your boat?

Nope, sorry that's not me. My crusty old boat doesn't have a name, although I have called it a few things over the years ;-)
