Went test driving for a new tow vehicle the other day and I was
impressed with the 2001 Chevy Tahoe. My wife was kind of intimidated by the size of a Suburban, as we do trade off driving our vehicles alot. However, with it's shorter wheelbase, for you guys that have one or a friend who has one, how is this truck for towing. I would be towing a 19' Yarcraft Michigan, I would estimate the boat/motors/trailer at around 3500#. Thanks.

Welp, toss it in to the cyber waters again and see if I can get a hit.
Get it with the 5.3L engine, towing package, and 3.73 gears. You'll love it. My son pulls a heavy ski boat, and the Tahoe handles it with ease.

I think you'd love the pulling ability of the Yukon and the weight of your boat/trailer combination isn't that great. The Yukon actually can pull a slightly larger trailer load. Both Yukon and Yukon XL have the same Gross Combined Vehicle Weight but due to the additional weight in the Yukon XL that is subtracted from what you can actually pull. However, stay with the four door version of the Yukon/Tahoe. The wheelbase on the two door's just isn't long enough. You'll feel every bump and the spinout radius makes the potential for spinout on a slippery road much more likely. You should see the numbers of the little 4x4's in the highway median during times of icy/snowy roads. The longer wheelbase allows more recovery time for your brain to react to what is happening in the back end when the vehicle starts to spin, back off the throttle, and turn the steering wheel appropriately. My two cents. My long wheelbase supercab truck has had the back wheels start to slip at different times but I've always been able to counter this. I like the pulling power of our Suburban almost as well as my truck.

I have a Tahoe Z71, pulls like a beast, as long as you don't put too much weight on the hitch. The torque is awesome, but we 'over loaded' a trailer a little on a trip out west last fall, and it got a little 'floaty' in the front end. Pulling the boat you described would be a piece of cake. The have beefed up the brakes and steering on the newer models, making it even better. Go buy it before you wife changes her mind!

I have a 93 Full size , 2 door Blazer (the forerunner of the Tahoe/Yukon) with a 5.7 liter engine and it pulls and handles like a dream, especially with a tandem trailer and trailer brakes. The short wheel base does pick up the bumps a little more, but still rides very well, that problem is more than made up for by the short turning radius and the maneuverability in tight ramps and parking areas at small motels and such. There is enough room in back to put a single mattress for those long drives and short naps. It has 168,000 miles and it still runs like a top. Go for it.
Have boat will travel
MY TAHOE IS A 1995 WITH A 350HP. I TOW A 1997 LUND PRO V LE WITH A 200 HP YAMAHA AND A 9.9 KICKER THE ALL THE GEAR AND HAVE NO TROUBLE AT ALL . GREAT TRUCK
You won't have to worry about the 2dr's short wheelbase. We don't make them anymore. The Tahoe or Sub are great tow vehicles. You can get them with a choice of engines and gearing. I've had two suburbans and they are the best vehicles I have ever used for towing a boat.

When we got our suburban my wife was like yours and didnt feel very comfortable at all, she said vehicle was too long and she wouldnt drive it. This was 7 years ago and we cant get her out of the drivers seat now. She drives the thing every where we go. We have heard them refered to as the Texas Cadillac and after havinbg ours I dont beleive we will have anything else. But I would look at the 6000 engine with all the trailer towing goodies on it. Just myy thoughts.
