I am taking our boy scout troop to Grand Rapids tomorrow- 2/24/01 and am curious if there are any decent lund dealers or large fishing/outdoor stores in the immediate region. We are going to Higher Ground Climbing Gym in the immediate downtown region and I am not too nuts about spending 12 hours in that gym. I may have to excuse myself and go check out some boats or fishing outlets. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

FootD, instead of wishin, why not go fishin. May want to check the www.steelheadsite.com, but I would think that things on the Grand, right downtown at 6th st Dam, and the Rogue ought to be heating up for steelhead. Who knows, there might be a walter or two mixed in down at 6th St.

Hi Foot Doc: I lived in Grand Rapids for many years b4 moving here to OH 3 years ago and am not aware of any lund dealers in the Grand Rapids area propper.

The closest one I am aware of is in Muskegon which is about 30 miles west of where you will be.

Other Ideas for you though would be the Gander Mountain store or maybe the West Marine Store or something like that.

There is a boat dealer not to far out of GR (maybe 5 to 10 miles) called Camp and Cruise but I don't believe they carry Lund. I think they have Crestliners though.

Hope you have a good time and that I was of at least some help.

That is another good idea. If you do this however FootDoc bring your waders with your gear and make sure you wear a life jacket!!! This area can be great fishing but it is a dangerous place to fish. There is a quary hole just down stream from the 6th st dam that claims a life or 2 every year. The Dam is actually more of a waterfall type thing and the Steelies and yes Walleye too can be caught there.

I actually thought of telling you about this too, but decided not too as it is a pretty dangerous place to fish. If you do go there just don't go down stream more thatn 75 to 100 yards from the falls and wear your life jacket.

FootDoc,
i know of no lund dealers in G.R., but there are a few in the outlying areas:

Sportfisheman's Center in Muskegon--1-800-251-8881

D&R Sports Senter in Kalamazoo--1-800-992-1520

Matteson Marine near Gun Lake--1-616-672-5292

heed the advise about the dangers at the 6th street dam. if you decide not to fish, the scouts may be interested in the fish ladder. it allows the steelhead that have migrated from lake mich, about 35 miles, to continue on their run beyond the dam and up stream. it's quite interesting to see the fish as they jump from level to level.:-)
