I'm looking for software that will allow me to acess and print Wis. lake maps , zoom in on detailed structure(and print),as well as plot GPS coordinates for that lake. I understand that Sportsmans Connection has great info and wide selection of lakes. Fishing Hot Spots has GPS capabilities but a limited number of lakes. How do they compare in actual use? Are there others I'm not aware of? Thanks...DWH

One of the most useful tools I have found for fishing, is the NOAA charts on CD-ROM. I can display and print out charts from my computer. I also use a program called "Chart View Planner". This program allows me to view the NOAA charts and give me the Lon./Lat. for the position of the mouse pointer. Using these two programs, I record the locations where I have caught fish. I have several years of data, which shows that walleye are consistently caught in the same place or reasonably close to it. If you look at my "Hot Spot Maps" they are made up using these programs. Boatus has both programs. Maptech has a web site at http://www.maptech.com this is where the NOAA maps came from. Chart View also has a web site at http://www.tides.com The maps CD is $199.95 and Chartview planner was $89 when I bought mine. Well worth the price.

I recently brought home the Hot Spots mapping system for WI and was greatly dissapointed. As I tried to use it the request for information came up but would not let me fill in the whole form, so i go to the web page and find out you have to down load a fix and give the serial number to get it. Still not a real problem, except i figure it's to make sure you don't share. Then I go back and have to fill out this long form about how, when, where, how much, what equipment, etc, etc, etc. Then i realize that they want this info to sell and not much more. The maps are ok but from what i saw could only be used on your computer, no down loads to GPS units. Not very happy, still all there is out there that I know of. Beware of Sportmans maps CD-Rom also, not easy to print ans that's what I got it for , so I didn't have to buy the books.
