I'm looking to buy a new truck and am considering a 2500 crew cab 4x4 with a 6.0 or a 2500hd 4x4 with a 5.3. Thos eof you that have trucks with these motors I'm wonder what a guy can expect to get for mileage?

I have the 2000 3/4 ton Suburban with the 300 horse engine. I now have 13,000 miles and avg. 16 to 17 on the highway.(not pulling of course) In town I can guess 13. It's a pulling fool when trailering and the haul/tow feature is great.
I have a 2WD 2001 Silverado 1500 LT Ex Cab with the 5.3L, 3.73 locking rear, traction assist, Z72 suspension.
Commuting (mostly freeway) I get 17-19 depending on traffic.
Open country (unloaded - no tow) 20.
Open country towing 2000# boat 18.
The tow/haul transmission is awesome. I used it this fall out on the farm pulling heavy grain wagons, and it didn't even stutter once.
Around town, 15.

The 5.3 is not offer in the 2500. The 6.0 is the only engine put in the 2500 liteduty

2000 k2500 ext cab with tonnau cover, 11 - 13 mpg city & towing, 15 - 17 mpg hi-way.
I love the performance, I hate the rattles and sqeaks from the dash. In my truck the in-dash drink tray on the 60/40 bench seat is a joke! Dealer replaced and it and still rattle, rattle sqeak creak.

I purchased a 2000 chevy with the 4800, the motor was replaced with 50,000 mile on it. It was making a lifter noise when it was started in the morning at first! As time progressed I began getting the lifter tap for 5-10 minutes, the dealer said there was a carbon buildup on the piston. So, they did an upper combustion clean 2 times, then one day I was changing my oil and found metal shavings on the drain plug! The dealer was first going to replace the pistons but chevy was doing extensive testing on the new piston design because of possible problems. I've talked to other people that have had new piston put in there new trucks. I would wait to buy a new one until they get this straightened out.
