2 Stroke of 4 Stroke Kicker? (Mercury)

What is the best to go with? I heard that the 2 stroke can troll down slower? Any comments.

I have a 9.9 Mariner 4 stoke and I will never go back to a 2 stroke kicker. You have to mix gas and have an extra gas tank for the 2 stroke, plus they smoke and are noisier. With the 4 stroke you can run off of your may tank if you've got oil injection on your main engine. They don't smoke and they burn very small amounts of fuel. My mariner is very quiet, I have to look back to see if there's water coming out of the pee tube to make sure it's running...now that's quiet...as far as speed mine will troll at idle all day at about 3/4 mph.

I have a Merc 9.9 four stroke and can't imagine a two trolling slower. I know it would not troll more quietly. Also, the four stroke is connected to the tank in my boat, so I don't have to carry along another tank with mixed fuel.

Without a doubt you should go with the 4-stroke. Will beat any 2 cycle for trolling applications hands down.

What size boat are you pushing with it, and how big is your main motor?

Go with the 4 stroke. If you can not get slow enough, change the prop to one with less pitch. Also if you are using the Panther lift you can bring it up a little and go slower that way also.

Go with the 4 stroke. Cheaper to run. Quieter. No stinky fumes. No more plug fouling. Starts better. So what if a 2 stroke can idle down a bit more, get a lesser pitched prop and you can go twice as slow.

You would have to pry my four stroke from my cold dead fingers. Great for lead cord and every thing.
