Heading to Mille Lacs Tuesday night for some crank and rap action. How was the weekend night bite? Should I go to the east side rocks near malmo or hit the indian point, agate area? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Jocko, We are heading up tonight too. We are thinking either Indian Point, or Rocky/Anderson reefs. People are not exactly open with suggestions are they.........Joe

The Lake was full of boats on Sunday night so i'm sure there are some people who have view points. Weather sounds like it will be perfect this evening. The Rockman had a good report about fishing a week ago last Sunday. I'm hoping someone will have some comments by the time we leave. What time are you guys arriving and how late do you plan on fishing? What landing do you prefer, we will be coming from Brainerd.

jocko, we are coming up from the cities around 6:00. Probably go out of Casino landing and fish the rocks off Indian Point, or the weeds/sand in the bays. Good Luck

Maybe alittle late however I was on the east side last night. Only fished till 8 and got 2 smallies in 10 feet. Wind was howling and you could surf on the waves breaking over the reef. Maybe the cold front shut them down however the last month has been hit or miss for me and last night was no exception. Still nice out though.

You did better than us. We only got one. We fished agate and the shoreline on the east side. When we were taking the boat out around 11:15 we heard a c.b. radio on shore talking about boats out on 3 mile. Which areas did you fish and how deep, what lures worked the best. I had a tough night I lost two raps and a #18. This was my own fault as I have lighter monafillament on my reel, I should know better. One fisherman at the landing said that he did very well on agate a few days ago when the wind was right, that same guy got skunked last night. I'll be interested to hear your scoop! Thanks

We fished Anderson's reef. We caught all three fish in about 12 feet trolling with my trolling motor. We were going very slow. I caught the 28 incher on a firetiger shad rap. I was going just fast enough to continually tick the rocks. After two hours my batteries died. We had to use the big motor and that was a disaster. When I was using the trolling motor if we got a snag you could just kind of "fiddle" with it and it would get loose. When we used the big motor we were going so fast every time we got a snag it got stuck. I lost three lures and my partner did too. I need to get two new batteries for my trolling motor....... Joe

Joe,
You might consider having a "trolling" prop for your big motor.
In most cases, this trolling bite is a fairly close in bite, not needing a long run.

So, lets say that you normally have a 19 or 20 pitch prop on your big motor.

Pick up a prop, that would commonly be used on a barge, or an other large craft, like a 13 or a 15 pitch prop.

You will have to limit your throttle setting, so that you don't overrev your motor; and you will take 10 mph off the top end.

However, you will be able to nearly cut your trolling speed in 1/2 with this much lower pitch prop.

Changing props at the landings only takes a couple of minutes; with the correct prop wrench.

Take care

REW, thanks for the tip. I never thought of that. The lake was calm as glass last night, so I think the "quietness" of the trolling motor compared to my Yamaha also made a difference....Joe

cranked reefs tues night (28th) on south end. caught 5 walleyes and 1 smallie. 4 of 5 walleyes were keepers. 14",18",19",19". all came on perch colored baits in about 8-12 ft. at about 2mph. fished till 10:30pm. haven't heard anything else from any one so i don't know if this was a good night or not.
