I went down to Omaha Nebr. Friday for the outdoor sports show to talk to the guys from reeds about the x-15 mt and they told me that I would be alot happier with a pinpoint 7520. Just looking for more opinions before I buy. Thanks in advance.

Pinpoint's faster scroll speed is what is killing the new Lowrance X15. Lowrance made a big mistake. They got stale and didn't keep up with the needs of their customers or their competition. They didn't take into consideration how fast boats are going. Today we need electronics that can still give accurate "real time" readings at high speed. They made the x15 scroll speed too slow. How can new info. appear in "real time" on the screen if the old info. doesn't move over quickly and make room for it? There is a black cloud over this new Lowrance "super unit". Lowrance is scrambling to correct the problem. They now have a softwear upgrade that is available at the Lowrance web site. Go to their web site and see for yourself. It can be downloaded directly onto your x15 at home. It increases the scroll speed. The X15 might now be the best thing since sliced bread, but a lot of us feel it might just be a reworked "patch up". If Lowrance is smart they will have a clearout sale of these x15 units and then come out with a new better designed top end model. There are a lot of good things being said about the new Vexilar EDGE2 (like a 400 khz. transducer that gives 1" traget seperation). You might want to take a good look at that one too.

What?

That's why all the boats come with flashers!!
Maybe you need to do a test on the units, that will open your eyes to reality!Maybe at 10' you can get 1" target seperation, but the is not a liquid crystal made yhat can do it in 20' not even over mud! Micro processer this, a good unit is one that you can tell the difference in bottom, see fish when ever possible & give you the best pixel count possible!

Buy a good Video if you really want the best!

As has been stated on this board before, the x-15 scroll speed seen in the simulation mode is NOT the highest speed this unit is capable of. Everyone seems to get bent out of shape over this scroll speed and Pinpoint of course raves about how important it is. I never had a problem with the speed of my 350A and the x-15 is faster than that. I frankly don't see a huge need for marking fish at 50 mph - but I do want a unit that shows everything when I'm slowly cruising over stucture or fishing. From what I've heard, the x-15 will do that as good or better than anything on the market.

Everyone at Reed's has always been high on Pinpoint, but I don't know how anyone there can say the Pinpoint is definitely a better unit when none of them have ever actually seen an x-15 in use. (I live 5 miles from their store and know their sales guys.)

It's bad enough with the all the "my boat/motor/truck/dad is better than yours" bashing on this board - now it seems like some Pinpoint users are just as bad. (And I'm not knocking Pinpoint, they are excellent units.)

Jay,
I totally agree with you.I think that everyone is bashing this unit because of the apparent slow scroll speed in simulator mode.Lets what to see what people think of this unit once it has a chance to get on the water and show what it can really do.Personally i dont know of a unit that will mark fish and detailed structure while going at faster speeds.Im looking for a unit that will show me great detail when going at slower speeds searching for fish and structure.By the looks of it this unit is heads and tails above the rest in showing detail.Lets give this unit a chance and talk about it in about 2 months.Kdog

Hi Tony. I do not, in all fairness, see how anyone can say that either of these units are better than the other. The new Lowrance unit has not been on the market that long! The stores started receiving them back in late December or early January. How can any evaluation be made on a unit in such a short time.

It seems you would have to buy a Pinpoint based on the experiences of others or purchase a Lowrance based upon the reliability and reputation of the parent company and past units already in the hands of consumers. Customer loyalty is a powerful thing and there are far more Lowrance users out there than Pinpoint. Regardless, Pinpoint is having to play catch-up in terms of market share and they are doing that rather well.

If you must have the ability to "network" more than one unit and spot fish at high rates of speed, get the Pinpoint.

Me? I am a Lowrance fan. I have no need to "network" and I run a Minnkota PD Trolling Motor. Besides, I do all of my fishing at very low speeds! ;<)

Enjoy!

They have a speed download in their website.

Just wondering the price of the X-15 compared to the 7520 in Canadian dollars. I also understand the X-15 comes in a color monitor, is this worth the extra money?

Thanks Jig

The color unit has only 240 vertical pixals, and MT has 350, it a higher resulution on its screen. I agree to the above scroll screen speed garbage.
