Keep going on 28 to Freeport. Freeport exit, take a right at the first avail turn. Ramps right there. drift large shiners to the mouth of buff creek from the boat ramp there if you fire up a big motor you scare off 90% of the fish.. Dec. 8 thru 10 had a river rise of 3'. 22 eyes, and a lot were keeper size but under 22". MO

I have been watching Highland Park posts for a while now and heard from some locals here that the Eye fishing can be awesome but that the fish arent good to eat because the river is so nasty.
Is there any truth to this?
Thanks

i don,t think so, i know to many people who eat the walleye and sauger they catch at the dam and not one of them as ever complained in the last 20 years about the fish.....hope this eases your mind a bit...

Shadowman sounds like you need a lesson in fishing Highland park!! I'll take you to all my hotspots. My boats hadicap accessible.
Look foward to my call. Hopefully I'll go there this week.
Glad to here ur still into em Mo.:-) Caught enuff for a nice mess the other day down here at Hannibal Dam - Fishing Creek mouth. They are there, and I do eat them to answer another question. They'll probably kill me if something else dont. ;-) Had a rough time keeping the ice off the hull of the boat and outta the guides. :-) Take that guy up on the offer Tom, and let him show u how its done. ;-) :-)

Want to hit hpd this winter, have never fished that pool. From driving over the bridge, I can see what appears to be a small island 10' by 10' area. is there a drop off around that section that hold fish. looking for a place to start.
